I accept this trade. The Diamondbacks receive seven solid prospects in this deal with the potential to land two additional elite level prospects via the 2013 draft held later this year with the 12th overall pick of the first and second round. Colby Lewis while currently injured, serves as a way to create cap space for me to complete this deal but also allows the Diamondbacks some potential future return as he is signed into 2014 and is an above average major league pitcher (which is useful in a 30 team league). In order to get James Shields in this deal, who I view as a borderline number one starter, I had to pay a premium. Since my farm system was without elite level talent I had to move a series of solid minor league prospects so that the Diamondbacks could hedge their bet to gain future value. Losing the 12th overall selection in this year's draft along with my 2nd round selection provides a way to gain elite level talent and balances the loss of short term benefit with long term potential gain. From my perspective, I had to make an attempt to bolster my pitching staff for both the short term as well as into next season. This move allows me to add Shields and Gregerson for more than one year while also giving me a more legitimate shot at winning the division, which after three scoring periods (small sample I realize) seems possible making this deal for me a reasonable reach and one I feel comfortable making.

I respect your vote but out of courtesy could you explain your thought process?

I'm not entirely set on how I'm going to vote on this one, but I think that D'backs is getting shorted here.
Shields (top ten pitcher last year) for say... 6 of those seven prospects and the 1st is a great package for him. However, Hudson was top 30 last season, Lewis had a down year and is out until the All-star break. Gregorson is also one of the best hold guys in our league. I think if we took the Hudson/Lewis combo it'd be a little more even here.

However, if you take Lewis out then the money doesn't work. I saw it like this. Shields for the 1st and 5 of the spects, Gregerson for the 2nd and 1 of the spects, and Hudson for Colby and 1 of the spects.

I approve, Hudson is on his way out. Shields is good but all of those spects have solid potential including those top 2 picks there.

I think its important to remember that the draft picks are going to be elite level talents in this deal for Kyle. I only have control of Hudson for one year while Kyle will control all nine prospects indefinitely.

I approve. Could do without Gregerson being added in but im not vetoing a trade over an RP unless it's Chapman or Kimbrel.

Ray, it's very easy to re-sign guys in this league, so you could very well have had Hudson for 1, 2 more years after this contract. There are NO guarentees with high draft picks... *cough *cough Brandon Wood...

Love this deal for both parties. Jays gives a lot here, but it's justifiable. ARZ adds to that pick block to now have 10, 11, and 12. Very fair trade. PASS

My point was that there is more of a cost and risk for me to resign an aging good pitcher I understand that I could do this but tying up future assets may not be the smart play in this case.

Max,
Why would you say this trade is fair and then pass on a vote? Curious...

When he says PASS, he means approve. No clue why he does this but it's how he operates.
