*Each team has 24 hours to make their selection from the time of the previous pick. If a team does not make their pick in 24 hours, they will be placed on auto-pick and have the highest available players taken in the MLB Draft selected for them. Teams can be taken off auto pick by sending a message to the commissioner. *The list of available players from the MLB Rookie Draft will be updated as regularly as possible, and can be found in the Amateur Draft Board. *Along with available recently drafted high school and college prospects, teams are also allowed to select any unowned minor league players (players that haven't had 130 At Bats or 50 Innings Pitched or 10 Games Started or 20 Relief Appearances at the major league level). Washington Nationals select
Andrew Vaughn 1B CHW California Bears
There was never any doubt about this pick. Sure, first base only prospects are risky, but so what. Vaughn is the best hitter in this draft and it’s not even close. The only fear I have is that the White Sox farm system ruins him before he makes it to the big leagues.

With the second overall pick, the Washington Nationals select
Adley Rutschman Catcher Baltimore Orioles Oregon State
This was the second obvious choice here. Catchers are a hard thing to find, especially catchers that can hit. Rutschman might be the most highly touted catching prospect in history. He shouldn’t spend too much time in the minors and should align nicely with the Nationals competitive window.

The draft was scheduled to start today (Sunday, 7/14) at 7pm!! When did this change? Nothing to the contrary has been posted. I am out of town - little internet connection until tonight!!!! I MIGHT be able to make a pick before then...not sure. The official clock should not start until 7pm, Sunday night.

Just to make you aware of another post about when the draft clock starts...
“Hey guys!
Our 2019 Amateur Draft will begin on July 14th at 7pm CT. The draft will be held on Proboards and last six rounds. Draft picks can be traded up until July 10th at 7pm CT, at which time the draft order will be locked. A full draft order for each round will be posted on July 12th at 7pm CT for each round.
Teams may only select players that were signed by an MLB team in the recent MLB Draft or any unowned players that are still prospects by eligibility according to our league rules. A list of draft prospects from the 2019 MLB Draft will be posted and kept up to date with who has already been picked to help you know who is available. Use the Player Search Tool in the right sidebar to search for prospects you're not sure are owned or not.
Teams will have a 24 hour clock to make their draft pick, but are encouraged to make their picks as soon as possibly. Other GM's will tag you on GroupMe or message you on Proboards when you're on OTC, so try to have your pick ready and be as prompt as possible to keep things moving.
Teams can begin trading 2020 Amateur Draft picks at the conclusion of the 2019 Draft. Teams can only trade players taken in the 2019 Amateur once the round the player was drafted in concludes and the Official Rosters are updated.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks!
Alex”
So...yea...

He opened up the draft to start earlier but the official draft clock doesn’t start until 7pm today. Don’t get so wound up that the league won’t accept your diners card after 7pm.

I'm with Gene on this one. He's OTC immediately at 7pm, which means he has less time to make a decision than if the draft actually started at 7pm. His pick probably wouldn't come up till Monday sometime, giving him a whole extra day to make a decision. Quite annoying that we don't ever stick to a schedule that is posted.

He’s technically on the clock at 7pm which means he has an additional 24 hours to make a pick. So he will end up having way more time to make his selection than if we actually started the draft at 7pm tonight. For a math doctor, you don’t do well with numbers.

Why is starting early a problem? We aren’t forcing people to pick, we are just getting a jump on it. He has the same amount of time (actually longer) because once the draft officially starts he has 24 hours. I feel like everyone needs to calm down a bit, I don’t know what’s got into the league this season but cmon man.

Also, prior to your most previous logon to ProBoards, 4 picks had been made. Why are you acting so stunned a full 2 days later?

Gene’s clock doesn’t start until 7pm CT tonight, as was posted. Just allowing a head start for teams who knew who they wanted because the signing deadline had already passed. No rush.

Alex "gets" it...thanks. A "soft start" is fine, but people may base personal schedules on what's been officially posted (ie. the 7/17 @ 7pm start). Anyhow, I was able to get some internet access and time so:
Oakland selects: Kody Hoese 3B L. A. Dodgers Tulane
