Rockies Sign Hernandez, Worley Out
The Rockies have signed veteran pitcher Livan Hernandez to a one year, 900k deal. With Vance Worley now out for the season, the team needed depth at starting pitcher through the post-season. Hernandez should do a find job of it. The Rockies are currently in the lead of the Houston Astros with 4 days left on the matchup. The Rockies, if they move on, will play the winner of the Mets/Reds.

Rockies Win, Onto the NLCS
The Rockies are victorious in the post-season. They defeated the Houston Astros to advance to the NLCS for the second year in a row. When asked about the accomplishment, the GM stated, "I'm just very proud of the way we competed. Obviously, this isn't the end, and I'd be dissapointed if it was, but we'll take a day to cherish this vitory. Next stop is Cincy!" The Rockies blew out the Astros on the last day to win by a score of (293.3) to (241.4). The top scorers for the Rockies for the week were: C.J. Wilson (43.6), Craig Kimbrel (39.6), and Bryce Harper (36.5). Unlike the usual distrabution, the Rockies got nearly half their points from these three players. David Price, who missed his start on Friday that caused concern in Colorado, said after Sunday's win, "I'll be fine. There's no way that I'm signing out now. This is our year, and I want to be a big part of it." Now, the team we love looks forward to a matchup against the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds lead the league in points scored over the year, and should be a very formidable opponent. GM Alex said, "We obviously respect Slava and what he's done with his organization. However, regardless of how many points he scored then, this is now, and right now, we're the best team in the league. Hands down." The Reds have caught fire since week 10. Winning 9 straight to end the season and defeating the Mets in Round 2 of the post-season. This should be a great matchup. Here's an update on Monday's scoring: The Rockies lead (35.3) to (21.4). Samuel Deduno's stellar start lead the way. He put up (22.9) to get us started off. Good luck Rockies!

Rockies Trail At Mid-Point With 3 days left to play, the Rockies currently trail by 70 points. Things aren't looking good, but there is hope. The Rockies will have David Price and C. J. Wilson starting today, Samuel Deduno tomorrow, and Ubaldo Jimenez on Sunday. We can only hope the offense has some big games in these next three days!

Rockies Storm Back, Cut It To 20 The Rockies were down by 80 points coming into Friday. However, after an amazing performance by the entire team (led by David Price's gem), the team is now only down by 20. The Rockies have Samuel Deduno on the hill once again today. Tomorrow, Ubaldo Jimenez will get the nod as the starter. Go Rockies!

Familiar End All Too Painful (above) The management watches in dismay as the season falls apart for the Rockies. The Rockies suffered their final loss of the season today, trailing by 8 points as the last batter was pronounced out on Sunday evening. The loss is extremely disheartening to a team that fought so hard to get to this point. The final score was: Rockies - 250.6/Reds - 259. Anthony Rizzo was the big scorer for the Reds. He put up 20.5 points, the difference in the game. The Rockies offense didn't show up when it was needed the most. The Rockies tallied only 3 total points on offense in their last game of the year. The press-conference was dead-quiet as the staff and players of the Rockies organization spoke to the media. First, the players had their chance. Here's a brief version of each players interview. David Wright (Team Captain). #1: David, how tough was this loss for you guys tonight being you've put so much on this season? Response: It's definitely stings. I was here last year when we lost, and that was hard for me personally. That was my first time in the big spotlight. We came away empty-handed, but I was determined to do better the next year. Well, here's next year. Same story. #2: What did you tell the guys after the loss? Response: I just said we've gotta keep our heads up. Yes, we lost, but if you look at it from the big picture, we have gotten to the final four twice in a row. There's no reason to say we can't improve next year. I hope the guys up front have the faith in us to go all in next season. #3: How much of a distraction is it for you know that you could possibly be leaving this team after this year? It's in the back of my head, but I'm staying. Alex wants me here. I know I'm worth the money at least for next year. I'll have to prove I'm worth a long-term deal come 2014. David Price: #1 How hard is for you, having the incredible season you had, to not be able to play for the top spot in the league? It sucks, man. I did all I could, but this is a team sport. I'm not saying anything about our team, but Cincy has to get some credit. #2 Where do you see the team heading this off-season? Are they planning on keeping the core together? I couldn't tell you that. That's a decision that's made upstairs. I want to stay here, though. I hope we can reach a deal this off-season. #3 Speaking of that, what are your hopes for when this deal will get done and what type of deal should we expect? Personnally, man, I really want to get a long-term deal. I feel like I've got a lot of years left on this arm. GM - Alex Monseth. The media asked the GM questions at a press conference unlike the players. The GM stated regarding his feelings after the game, "I'm really at a loss for words. We had it. I guess it's back to the drawing board." Another reporter asked him of his off-season plans. The Rockies have potential free agents (including Price, Konerko, and Wright), "I haven't even gotten there yet. I'll assess the situation in the next few weeks. I'll get the ship moving along." Once again, here are our awards for the season for those of you that missed them: MVP - David Wright Cy Young - David Price Most Improved - Rafael Soriano POPS (Player of the Post-season) - Craig Kimbrel That raps it up for this season. We will release reports for the off-season as soon as the GM starts cranking.

Rockies Make Splash, Trade For Parker The Rockies made a move today to bring in starting pitcher, Jarrod Parker. It was the first move of what should be a busy off-season for the Rockies as they try and get the World Series next year. Parker is (12-8) on the year with a sub (3.5) ERA. In return, the Rockies sent to the Rangers Ben Revere, Eric Young Jr., Adonys Cardona, Mike Mckenry, and Destin Hood. The move does take away some depth in the outfield and in the farm system, but it should prove worthwhile to help a rotation that struggled last year. GM Alex stated after the move was completed, "Phase one is complete for us. We needed to bring someone in to solidify the rotation. It may not be entirely complete, but I'm feeling better about it already." The Rockies should look to focus on their strategy for resigning their players with free agency looming. What they do here could determine how the season goes.

Rockies Submit FA Info, Re-sign Wright
The Rockies submitted their roster resigns, arbitration contracts, free agency tags, and released players to the League Office today. Free Agency is scheduled to start mid-November. Here's a recap of the Rockies off-season dealings. Player Arbitration: The Rockies offered arbitration to both pitchers David Price and Brian Duensing. Price will be paid $8.4m in 2013, $14.4m in 2014, and $18.4m in 2015. Duensing will be paid $1m for 2013. The team did not decline any arbitration eligible players. Player Options: The Rockies had player options on catcher Steve Clevinger, first baseman Paul Konerko, second basemen Matt Tolbert and Wilson Valdez, third baseman David Wright, and pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez, Jorge De La Rosa, Rafael Betancourt, and Matt Lindstrom. The Rockies agreed to the options of the players: Clevinger, Konerko, Wright, Jimenez, De La Rosa, and Betancourt. The Rockies declined the options of the players: Tolbert, Valdez, and Lindstrom. Franchise Tag: The Rockies placed the team Franchise Tag on outfielder/first baseman Carlos Lee. They offered him a $500k contract for 2013. Restriction Tags: The Rockies placed their two restriction tags on second baseman Mark Ellis and pitcher Matt Capps. Released Players: The Rockies declined to offer a new contract for the following players: Ramon Castro, Matt Treanor, Matt Tolbert, Wilson Valdez, Mark Ellis, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Livan Hernandez, Matt Capps, Matt Lindstrom, and Phil Dumatrait. That sums up the off-season dealings for the Rockies this year. They go into free agency with $36.1m in cap room to fill needs at 2B, SP, and possibly C (depending on the return of Wilson Ramos). They are said be targeting these players: C - Ryan Doumit, A.J. Pierzynski 1B - Bryan Lahair 2B - Gordan Beckham, Freddy Sanchez, Mark Ellis SS - Jhonny Peralta, Jamey Carroll, Jimmy Rollins 3B - Michael Young, Pedro Alvarez, Wilson Betemit OF - Nick Swisher, B.J. Upton, Carlos Gomez, Shane Victorino, Torii Hunter, Will Venable SP - Phil Hughes, Wei-Yin Chen, Colby Lewis, Carl Pavano, Ervin Santana, Jake Peavy, Ryan Dempster, Chris Carpenter, Chirs Volstad, Carlos Zambrano, Kyle Lohse RP - Jonathan Papelbon, Jose Valverde, Mariano Rivera, Heath Bell, Jason Motte, Joe Nathan, Brian Wilson, Matt Capps

Free Agency Over, DeJesus and Scott the New-comers
The Rockies Free Agency is coming to a close. The team has a few bids on the market, but let's recap to see what the Rockies lost and gained so far in this off-season. Lost: Matt Treanor (Signed with Baltimore) Ramon Castro (Free Agent) Wilson Valdez (Free Agent) Matt Tolbert (Free Agent) Jarrett Hoffpauir (Free Agent) Livan Hernandez (Free Agent) Matt Lindstrom (Signed with Baltimore) Phil Dumatrait (Free Agent) Gained: Mark Ellis (Used Restriction Tag) Scott Downs (Signed) David DeJesus (Signed) The Rockies are also still pending the use of their restriction tag on Matt Capps, and also have bids on Wilson Valdez and other players on the market. Mark Ellis: The Rockies second baseman hit .258 last year with 7 HR's and 31 RBI's. He came out the gate smoking with an average over .300. However, after injuries that held him out most of the season, he declined in August and September. The Rockies hope he can look more like he did at the beginning of last year at a position that is in question for a ball club that wants it all. David DeJesus: From one contender to another, DeJesus jumped ship from rival Philadelphia this off-season. The Rockies offered him a deal of $6.3m to be their 4th outfielder, and fill-in utility man. DeJesus hit .263 with 9 HR's and 50 RBI's last year. He wasn't playing everyday in the Phillies star studded outfield, but he should fit right in at Colorado. The GM said after the signing became official, "This was one that we really needed. I trust our guys we already had, but David is going to give us depth that we really could use this year." Scott Downs: Downs finished last season with a 3.15 ERA and 9 SV's. However, looking closer, Downs was one of the best holds relievers in the league last year. His dominance in the 7th and 8th innings was something the Rockies craved going into the off-season. "We have a lot of guys that can close games and get the saves," the GM stated. "But Scott is a different kind of talent that's going to be very valuable for us in the bullpen." The Rockies are expected to match the offer on Matt Capps soon and sign a few more arms in the bullpen.

Rockies Looking To Trade The Rockies showed their first signs of activity since the ending of Free Agency this off-season. The team posted a trading block and named a few players available including pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, prospect Daniel Norris, and outfielders David DeJesus and Justin Ruggiano. It is possible that the team is looking to sure up positions such as catcher and second base that are sketchy for a team that's all in for 2013. Just how committed are the Rockies for this season? Well, let's look at the roster. In the starting rotation, 4 of 8 starting pitchers are scheduled to become free agents following this season. Carlos Lee's contract is up; David Wright's contract is up; Evan Longoria has reached his first option year; Paul Konerko becomes a free agent; and Rafael Soriano's time in Colorado could be done. Along with this, compared to the rest of the league, the Rockies do not have a very strong farm system. Yes, the high drafting of Andrew Heaney and the big bat of Jonathan Singleton are bright spots, but the team shuffled out a lot of young talent towards the end of last season trying to make a run before losing to Cincinnati. On top of the situation for next year, the Rockies dealt out a much larger amount of money this season in free agency compared to the years prior. So will these gambles pay off? We'll have to wait to find out, but there's a sense of determination in the air in Colorado as spring training approaches. The mood around camp is that this is the year it finally gets done. Back to back NLCS losses. Back to back best record in the NL. And obviously one of the most padded rosters in the league. Is this the year of the Rockies? It seems it has to be.

Capps Out, Rockies Acquire Pitcher The Rockies have completed their first trade of 2013 by sending veteran reliever Matt Capps and prospect Jared Clark to the Chicago White Sox for pitching prospect Nick Tropeano. The move brings more depth to the Rockies farm, and they won't lose much in an already crowed bullpen. When asked about the deal, GM Alex Monseth stated, "I'm happy with this trade, I wish Matt the best, but let's face it, we have a lot of guys competing for a few spots in this bullpen rotation. It's going to be tough for everyone to get a spot, and we have no favorites right now. I'm hoping to see these guys compete in spring training." Tropeano is expected to reach the majors in 2014. Here's a report from MLB.com on Tropeano. The former Stony Brook standout has an intruiging three-pitch mix coming from a perfect pitcher’s frame that allowed him to lead the organization in strikeouts in 2012. His changeup stands out as his most effective pitch, with excellent sink. He’s picked up velocity on his fastball and will touch 95 mph. His slider should give him a Major League average breaking ball. He keeps everything down in the strike zone and everything moves. He earned a promotion during his first full season and after a strong stint in the Arizona Fall League, he’s ready to move on the fast track.

Rockies Sign Plethora of Depth Florimon Jr. The Rockies made deals today with three free agents. The three deals were announced today in at 10:00 AM this morning. The Rockies signed veteran catcher, Henry Blanco to a 1 year deal at the league minimum of 300k. He is expected to compete with Steve Clevinger to back up catcher Wilson Ramos. Ramos, who is coming off an injury, may not be completely ready to go right off the bat, so we could see Blanco in action early. Along with Blanco, the Rockies agreed to a 1 year deal with second baseman, Adam Rosales, worth 600k. Rosales is merely a reliable option behind the aging Mark Ellis at second base. There's been some murmor around camp that Ellis is looking even older this year. Hopefully Ellis can perform as he usually does, but we could see a lot of action out of Rosales towards the end of the season if Ellis wears down. Finally, the Rockies opened to the wallet a bit and signed first baseman Mauro Gomez to a 1 year deal worth 1.6m with an option for 2014. Gomez had been hitting well this spring, and the Rockies were discontent with Brad Eldred's performance as the back-up to another aging talent in Paul Konerko. Gomez probably won't be a part of the Rockies future plans with Jonathan Singleton chomping at the bit in AAA, but he should get a few starts for Konerko in the short term. GM Alex Monseth said on the signings today, "We were a little bit thin on the offensive end. I've liked what I've seen out of these guys when we've been scouting them this spring. They've all worked hard and deserve a chance to be part of something great, and that's what we' going to be this year." In breaking news, the Rockies have also announced that they've agreed to terms with shortstop Pedro Florimon Jr.. He's been playing well this spring, and the Rockies decided to leave all prospects in the minors and go with a more established option in Florimon Jr.. He will back up Elvis Andrus at short and provide some speed on the bases off the bench. GM Alex Monseth returned to the podium with a few short words, "We're just adding pieces. I can tell you right now, I mean business this season."

Rockies Start Of 1-0, Chacin Shines
1-0. The Rockies started off their season with perfection in a victory over division rival: the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies started off hot with an 83.3 point day on Tuesday and held off the Dodgers the rest of the way. The Rockies production was spread out over the whole team, but the spotlight performance was Jhoulys Chacin's 36.4 point week. His two quality starts were crucial in the Rockies win. GM Alex Monseth stated after the official results came in, "Great way to start of the season. Hats off to (Jhoulys) Chacin; he worked his butt off all off-season to get to this position. It's nice to see the fruit of his labor." Final score: Rockies (1-0) - 364.9 Dodgers (0-1) - 251 Week 1 MVP: Jhoulys Chacin - 36.4 The Rockies will head home to Coors Field for a matchup with another division rival: San Diego this week. Rockies Defeat Padres, Move to Second on PR The Colorado Rockies continued their winning ways in Week 2 with a victory over the San Diego Padres. The team held slight advantages throughout the week and came up with multiple 67 point days to give them a definite advantage. Production was once again spread throughout the team, but the pitching was key in the victory. C.J. Wilson (31.8 pts), Jake Westbrook (27.3 pts), and surprisingly Jorge De la Rosa (29.8 pts) led the way in the rotation and Craig Kimbrel (33.9 pts) was again stellar in the 9th inning. Youthful Bryce Harper (29.5 pts) and aging Paul Konerko (29 pts) led the way for the offense that picked up a few injuries during the week. Catcher Wilson Ramos (strained hamstring) and outfielder Jason Kubel (quad) were both placed on the 15-day DL to recover. The team announced today that they have called up Henry Blanco to take Ramos place at catcher.
Alex Monseth, GM, was quoted to say after the matchup, "Another great division win for us. Just disappointed that injuries are already setting in. Hopefully, this can be a thing that's past us quickly."
Final Score: Rockies (2-0): 320.4 Padres (1-1): 220
Week 2 MVP: Craig Kimbrel - 33.9
With last week's win, the team is currently second in the power rankings. The Rockies will look south as they take on the 2-0 D'backs of Arizona in Week 3. The winner will gain an early control over the NL West.

Rocks Win Again, Captain Leads the WayThe Rockies again were victorious after another matchup as they stayed a perfect 3-0 on the season and in the division against Arizona. The game was close throughout, but the Rockies pulled away during the last few days of the week and finished off their 2-0 division rivals. Strong offensive play was the key to victory this time around. Team Captain David Wright finished as the MVP of the League for Week 3 after putting up 45 points. Likewise, Co-Captain Evan Longoria contributed 40.5 points and up-and-coming star Bryce Harper added 32 points.
In injury news, Jason Kubel and Wilson Ramos both remain out with their injuries. There is no timetable for their returns. Adding to the list, Jhoulys Chacin went to the 15 day DL after his last start with a lower back injury. The team believes it's not serious, and he will be able to return soon. Rafael Soriano is DTD on paternity leave. He is expected to return by the latest on Wednesday.
The GM said of the win, "Another step closer towards our goal. It's always great when your leaders are the ones putting up the most production. We have to stay focused on our next game against San Francisco.
Final Score: Rockies (3-0): 347.3 D'backs (2-1): 208.7
Week 3 MVP: David Wright: 45
In late news Sunday night, the Rockies have signed reliever Casey Fien to a 1 year deal @ 1.2m. The GM had no comment on the signing. Colorado will look west in their Week 4 matchup as they take on the struggling 0-3 San Francisco Giants. A win could give them a two game lead in the division with San Diego and Arizona losses.

Colorado Acquires Pettite, Betancourt The Rockies brought big news to Colorado on Thursday when the team made a move to acquire future hall of fame pitcher, Andy Pettite from the division rival Arizona Diamondbacks. The move gives the team an immediate boost in the rotation, where ace David Price has struggled, youngster Jarrod Parker seems to be losing it, and Jhoulys Chacin is on the disabled list. The team also acquired infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to provide depth and possibly compete for a starting job at second base. The Rockies sent back prospects Alex Wood, Bryan Brickhouse, and Zach Green along with their second and fourth round draft picks in the upcoming 2013 Amateur Draft.
The move marks somewhat of a turning point for a team that has been hesitant to trade any of the farm system's top prospects for mid-level talent. It is clear that this is a year that the team won't take lightly. It may be the last year for this team that they've put together. David Wright, Paul Konerko, Ubaldo Jimenez, Jake Westbrook, Jorge De La Rosa, and Rafael Soriano all have expiring contracts at the end of this season. After losing twice in a row in the NLCS, it appears the Rockies are set on finally at least getting to the title game.
GM Alex Monseth was quoted saying in a press conference at Coors Field after the trade was made official, "I'm a huge Pettite fan, always have been. I hope he and Yuniesky can be key parts in what we're trying to do here."

Rockies Trump Giants, Harper Hot4-0. The Rockies have once again won their first four games of the season for a second year in a row. The team faced a close score going into the weekend but pulled away for the victory against division rival San Francisco. The Rockies are now 4-0 overall and in their own division, something huge for securing one the top three seeds come playoff time. The Rockies were led by strong performances by Evan Longoria (32.5), David Price (34.7) and now MVP candidate Bryce Harper (35.5). Harper's point totals this week put him at #3 in the MVP race behind Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Justin Upton and Baltimore Orioles' outfielder Coco Crisp.
In roster news, the team activated catcher Wilson Ramos from the disabled list this afternoon and demoted Henry Blanco. Earlier this week, the team also activated outfielder Jason Kubel from DL, and added newly acquired pitcher Andy Pettite and infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to the 25-man roster. The team sent down reliever Casey Fien and shortstop Pedro Florimon Jr.. Jhoulys Chacin remains on the DL with a back injury.
Reporters caught up with GM Alex Monseth after the game, and he said on the week, "All I can say is we got better this week. Whether it's in the form of trading for a few guys, seeing improvements on the field, or simply getting another win, we got better."
Final Score: Rockies (4-0): 296.7 Giants (0-4): 239.4
Week 4 MVP: Bryce Harper: 35.5
The Rockies, having ended their first batch of division play, will fly south to Miami to play the winless Marlins this week. Newly acquired starter, Andy Pettite, will get his first start tonight.

Rockies Sign Depth, Chacin Close To ReturnThe Rockies have announced today that they have signed catcher Yorvit Torrealba to a one year deal worth 600k. It was reported that the Angels of Los Angeles were also bidders for the 34 year old. It is believed that Yorvit will provide back-up to the now healthy Wilson Ramos. Henry Blanco struggled in his time behind the backstop with Ramos out, and with Ramos' injury history, the team felt the need to sure up the position. Originally, the job was intended for Steve Clevinger, who started during Colorado's post season run last season when Ramos went down witha previous injury, but Clevinger was placed on 60 day disabled list last Sunday. It is unlikely that Torrealba is called up to the 25-man roster immediately unless another injury occurs.
In other news, Jhoulys Chacin is one step closer to returning to the mound for Colorado. He will pitch in an extended spring training game tonight, and, ceteris paribus, he should be able to start on this Saturday at the earliest. Chacin was the team's best starter in the first part of April. He went 3-0 with 16 K's and a 1.46 ERA in 4 straight quality starts to open the season. It is unclear who will be demoted to the minors upon Chacin's return, but it is believed that relievers Brian Duensing or Chris Resop are the first to go.
GM Alex Monseth said on a radio interview at noon, "He's (Torrealba) a veteran guy who knows how to play baseball. Ramos is our catcher, but with the way things have gone for us in the past with guys going out, things could change pretty quickly."

Rocks Mash Miami, Chacin Returns We're one fourth of the way through the season already, and the Rockies have triumphed over the winless Marlins of Miami to move to 5-0 on the 2013 season. The team jumped to an early lead at the beginning of the week and never looked back winning in convincing style. The fireworks came from an unlikely hero this week, as Justin Ruggiano starred with 39.5 points to lead the team. Newly acquired Yuniesky Betancourt contributed 30, and reliever Rafael Soriano chipped in 26.9 out of the bullpen. For someone hoping for a tight matchup, it didn't happen this week.
In roster news, Jhoulys Chacin was activated from the DL Saturday night and made his first start in his return Sunday. Unfortunately for Chacin, he allowed 5 earned, but pitched 7 innings in the loss. The team demoted reliever Chris Resop to make space for Chacin. Along with Chacin, Mark Ellis remains day-to-day with a quad injury. It's possible he could be headed for a stint on the disabled list, but the team is waiting a few more days to see if he can get back on the field sooner.
GM Alex Monseth commented following the victory, "Another game, another win. Can we be stopped? *laughs* Just kidding, but I really liked how we played this week. Everyone contributed to the win. Time to get right back at them!"
Final Score: Rockies (5-0): 318.1 Marlins (0-5): 115.6
Week 5 MVP: Justin Ruggiano: 39.5
The Rockies will see Miami again surprisingly next week in the second of a back to back, this time at home. The team hopes to maintain its one game lead over the Padres in the NL West.

Back To Back In Miami - Longo SluggingAt one point in this matchup, there was a sense of sympathy for the Marlins after the Rockies dominated throughout the week. Colorado moved to a perfect 6-0 on the season while scoring their highest point totals of the year with 419.4, including an 111.4 point Saturday performance in which five starters took to the mound. Strong all around pitching was key to this week's victory. Ubaldo Jimenez had 44.1 points and Jorge De La Rosa tallied 46.2. The big time performance of the week, however, goes to to team co-captain Evan Longoria. He was the Week 6 MVP in the league with 59 points and carried Colorado offensively.
In roster news, the team placed Mark Ellis and Jake Westbrook on the 15 day disabled list Sunday night. The move opened up space, and shortstop Pedro Florimon Jr. and reliever Chris Resop were called up accordingly. Scott Downs and Jarrod Parker are currently day to day, but aren't expected to miss any playing time.
After the game at the press conference, GM Alex Monseth was quoted saying, "While it's nice to win another one here, we all know that Miami is having a down year. Big test next week against a hot Atlanta team. Shout out to our rotation this week. This is what I had envisioned when I put this staff together."
Final Score: Rockies (6-0): 419.4 Marlins (0-6): 103.8
Week 6 MVP: Evan Longoria: 59
As Monseth said earlier, the Rockies are headed to Atlanta to face a 4-2 Braves squad that has surprised many this season. It should be a tightly contested matchup where the Rockies will hope to maintain their one game lead on San Diego in the NL West.

Rockies Win Over Atlanta, Price to the DLThe Rockies got the job done once again against the Atlanta Braves this past week, winning a tightly contested matchup by less than thirty points. The Rockies trailed by over fifty points mid-way through the week, but showed great resiliency in their comeback win over the surprising Braves of this 2013 season. In a down week for the rotation, the offense and bullpen carried Colorado. Elvis Andrus led the way with 40 points, David Wright chipped in 32 points, and Craig Kimbrel had 27.4 while tallying three saves. Now for the not-so-great news of the week, the trainers are getting busy in Colorado. Wilson Ramos was moved to the DL15 with a hamstring injury. Southpaws ace David Price and newly acquired Andy Pettite both are on the DL15 after this week with triceps and back injuries respectively. Jake Westbrook remains on the DL15 with an elbow injury. The injuries have greatly weakened the Colorado rotation, and it showed this past week with the point totals down for Colorado. The team called up relievers Casey Fien and Josh Outman and catcher Yorvit Torrealba to replace the newest players on the disabled list. GM Alex Monseth said briefly after the win Sunday night in Atlanta before heading to a meeting to discuss who would be called up Monday morning, "We're getting it done. Now we just need to get healthy." Final Score: Rockies (7-0): 252 Braves (4-3): 223.9 Week 7 MVP: Elvis Andrus: 40 The Rockies will now play another game against Atlanta in their second back to back in the last four games. They are currently 3rd in the power rankings and #1 in the National League as the only unbeaten team remaining. Texas and Los Angeles are also unbeaten in the American League. Rockies Lose Second Straight, Injuries Pile UpThe Rockies were "unvictorious" in there matchup this week against the Phillies of Philadelphia despite scoring 313.3 points. Amidst a slew of injuries, the Rockies managed to come back from nearly 150 down to trail by only 15 on the last day, but a late start by a Phillies starter ended any dreams for a comeback. Jarrod Parker (45.9), Ubaldo Jimenez (42.2), and Jorge De La Rosa (37.2) led the way in scoring in a depleted rotation. This loss comes on the heels of the team's surprising loss to the Atlanta Braves in Week 8. Coverage was not provided last week due to a power outage.
In roster news, the Rockies have placed David Price, Bryce Harper, and Rafael Betancourt on the disabled list where they will join Wilson Ramos and Jake Westbrook. Andy Pettite was activated from the the disabled list late Sunday night and will start tonight against Washington. The Rockies called up Josh Outman, Pedro Florimon Jr., and Casey Fien in response the injuries.
GM Alex Monseth said after the two losses, "It's tough. We're dealing with a lot of health problems right now, but that's no excuse. It's disappointing to see us drop two straight for the first time in our history." The Rockies are also in second place in the National League West for the first time in team history after this week's loss.

Rockies Fall Short In D.C., Sign Outfielders The Rockies dropped their third straight this week in their matchup with the Washington Nationals in the nation's capital. The team started off slowly and could never catch up with the struggling Nationals team who had lost five straight coming into their matchup with Colorado. The loss puts the team two games behind the surging San Diego Padres in the National League West Division, but the Rockies still remain the four seed with a point edge over St. Louis. Andy Pettite shined in his return to the club after missing time with injuries and led the team with 31.3 points. Jarrod Parker and David Wright had 21.9 and 21 points respectively.
In roster news, the team signed Brandon Barnes and Mike Carp to one year contracts on Monday to help fill the hole in the outfield with Harper's time on the disabled list. David Price, Jake Westbrook, Rafael Betancourt, and Wilson Ramos also remain on the disabled list with Harper. However, the team expects Westbrook could return as soon as Friday to start against the National League leading Cincinnati Reds.
GM Alex Monseth stated at the conclusion of the disappointing loss to the Nationals, "Things need to start moving here. I know we're having problems with injuries, but things could get out of hand quickly if we don't pull together."
Final Score: Rockies (7-3): 223.8 Nationals (4-6): 254.3
Week 10 MVP: Andy Pettite: 31.3
The Rockies are currently playing Cincinnati and hope to pull off the upset this week and get back in the winning column. Ubaldo Jimenez and Jorge De La Rosa will start tonight.

Rocks Knock Off Reds, Deal for LockeThe Rockies managed to snap their three game losing streak this week in a promising win over last year's defending National League Champs, the Cincinnati Reds. After being down early, the Rockies methodically climbed back into the game by weeks end and blew it open going into the weekend. Fortunately for Colorado, the Padres lost reducing the deficit to one game back in the National League West Division. Jhoulys Chacin shined on the mound with 41.6 points, and team co-captain Evan Longoria also put up 38.
In roster news, the Rockies made a big splash trading for right-hander Jeff Locke from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Locke has been dealing recently and should give the rotation a big boost. The team sent back last year's first round pick, Andrew Heaney, in return. Along with the trade, David DeJesus wound up on the disabled list this week, which shouldn't come as a surprise to Colorado fans with the way this season has gone. Price, Harper, Betancourt, and Ramos all remain on the DL with their injuries.
GM Alex Monseth mentioned in the post-game press conference, "We're back in it. Watch out Phillies. Watch out Padres. Watch out Reds. The National League is ours this year."
Final Score: Rockies (8-3): 333.9 Reds (9-2): 217.6
Week 11 MVP: Jhoulys Chacin: 41.6

Rockies Blast Dodgers, Look Forward to PadresContinuing their perfect stretch against division rivals, the Rockies remained undefeated in the NL West with a second victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. It was possibly the best outing of the season for the Rockies as they scored huge numbers and tallied two 99.5 point days. The captains, David Wright and Evan Longoria, led the scoring with 43 and 36.5 respectively. Jarrod Parker and Jorge De La Rosa also both had 35.7 points on the hill.
In team roster news, all five players on the team's disabled list; Harper, Price, DeJesus, Ramos, and Betancourt, resumed baseball activities this past week and should are close to returning. With the exception of DeJesus, the other four could return before the beginning of July.
The GM had this to say after the win, "Probably the best we've played so far, and that without our best hitter/pitcher at the beginning of the year. We're coming for you San Diego. Hope you've enjoyed the division lead for a bit..."
Final Score: Rockies (9-3): 408.3 Dodgers (4-8): 169.4

Rockies Win Thriller Over Padres For Division LeadThe Rockies have added just one more game to the win column with a victory over the division rival San Diego Padres this past week. And although it counts as just one victory, it was definitely the most important one of the season. Although the Rockies trailed for most of the matchup, the team prevailed in the end to win by 2.1 points. The win gave the Rockies a share of the division lead, and with the power rankings, vaulted them up to the #2 seed in the National League. C.J. Wilson was the star of the week for Colorado with 41.8 points on the mound in two stellar performances, and Ubaldo Jimenez added 30.5 points.
In roster news, the Rockies appear to be turning the corner just in time for the last few games of the season health-wise. David Price, Wilson Ramos, Bryce Harper, and Rafael Betancourt all returned from injuries that had them sidelined for over a month. David DeJesus remains on the DL, and Paul Konerko joined him just this past weekend. Mike Carp will handle the first base duties in his absence.
GM Alex Monseth said after the team's 10th win on the season, "We've worked hard over the past month to put ourselves back into a position to catch them. It all paid off with the win here today."
Final Score: Rockies (10-3): 284.5 Padres (10-3): 282.6
Week 13 MVP: C.J. Wilson: 41.8
The Rockies will head to Arizona to play the 6-7 D'backs who've struggled lately. They're two games behind the Phillies in the race for the NL's top seed and need a win to secure their spot in the division.

Rockies Demolish D'backs, Price Shines In ReturnThe Rockies won convincingly, to say the least, in a Week 14 matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. After a slow start over the first few days, the Rocks pounded Arizona to get their 11th win on the season. The team was lead by captain David Wright with 29.5 points. David Price returned from an injury that's sidelined him since May to contribute 27.3 points, and Andy Pettite had 27.1 in the win.
In roster news, the Rockies demoted Chad Qualls to make room for Price's return from the DL. The team also demoted Corey Dickerson and re-called Brandon Barnes from the minors. Paul Konerko and David DeJesus remain on the disabled list.
GM Alex Monseth was quoted after the game, "Nice to rest some of our starters towards the end, there. Glad we were able to put them away early so I could sleep better these last few days."
Final Score: Rockies (11-3): 305 D'backs (6-8): 84.6
Week 14 MVP: David Wright: 29.5
The Rockies will stay in the west and go to the coast for a matchup with the surging Giants. The team remains two games back of Philadelphia for the National League's top seed.

Rockies Take Jagielo with the 29th Pick in DraftWith their only pick in the first two rounds, the Rockies took third baseman Eric Jagielo out of Notre Dame today. The team initially had their sights set on righty Hunter Harvey, but he went to the Yankees a few picks earlier. Consequently, the Rockies pulled the trigger on one of the best hitters in this draft class in Jagielo. His entire game is very well polished, and he hit over .300 in his last two seasons at Notre Dame while supplying some power. Here's what the experts had to say:
Adam Wells from The Bleacher Report: MLB.com's Top 100 Draft Prospects: Baseball Prospect Nation:
Good luck to Jagielo in the Rockies organization!

Rockies Break Scoring Record, Defeat MilwaukeeWow, what a week (and a half) for the Colorado Rockies. You read the headline right, the Rockies broke the league scoring record set by the Cincinnati Reds in 2012 with a whopping 632 points this past week against the Milwaukee Brewers over the extended week from the all-star break. Three others teams broke the scoring record this past week, but the Rockies ended up with the highest total out of the three: Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Angels (who lost to Texas), and Seattle Mariners. Although there were many highlight performances, C.J. Wilson dominated on the mound with 50.4 points. David Price had 47.2 and Craig Kimbrel had 43.9 from the pen.
For this week's roster news, the Rockies have placed reliever Rafael Betancourt on the disabled list. It is hopeful that he returns soon, possibly within the week. Paul Konerko and David DeJesus were activated from long stints on the disabled list, and Mike Carp and Brandon Barnes were demoted to make room.
Alex Monseth, GM of the Rockies, said after the game, "So incredibly proud of these guys. When we started off with the big totals on day one, I knew we had a chance."
Final Score: Rockies (13-3): 632 Brewers (9-7): 388
Week 16 MVP: C.J. Wilson: 50.4
