Orioles trade:
Prince Fielder (14: $25M) Joe Wendle (Prospect salary: $300k)
Royals trade:
Joey Votto (13: $17M, Offseason Free Agent)
Both sides benefit. Royals were in a bind with Votto/Reyes/Wainwright all free agents this offseason. I have no one of real value to franchise tag this offseason. However, I got some guys in 2014 that I may want to tag (Verlander, etc.), so this frees up that tag with Fielder (who was set to expire) out of the picture. Both teams essentially get to keep elite first basemen.
Royals to confirm.

I accept. As Mike states, this trade helps me with 3 of my best players going into free agency. As much as I love Votto, I can't keep everybody so Prince is a nice consolation prize and I really like Joe Wendle as well.
Nice dealing Mike.

Approve....(5-0). I'm curious as to when our 2014 offseason officially starts. If this trade is an action of the 2014 offseason then it would seem as though Votto can not currently be traded as his 2013 contract has expired and he is not yet signed for the 2014 season.
If this is considered an action of the 2013 season even though "our" 2013 season has ended, then it seems that we have found a sort of loophole in the rules. A two week window after our league trade deadline has passed, and after our World Series has concluded in which teams can trade players who are no longer under contract after the 2013 season.
To clarify....I'm wondering when exactly our 2013 season ends, and our 2014 season begins. Does our 2013 season end at the conclusion of our World Series, or does it extend until the actual MLB season concludes?

Hey, sorry I didn't get to this sooner. This deal can happen. We have always had deals between the end of the year and free agency! So yeah.. this is official!

Well... actually, upon further review. This deal is invalid... it puts the Royals over the salary cap by like 6 million...
Please rework it.

I'll release Placido Polanco who is making $8.3M and a FA in 2014

That would only give you 4.2m in space bro... you need 6.3 if I remember right.

OK,I've released Polanco ($8.3M) and Soria ($8M) so that should clear $8.15 in cap so that I can get this deal done.
