Another Beltway swap!
Orioles trade:
SP Henderson Alvarez (16-18: $12M)
RP Tony Zych ($300k)
Brandon Koch ($300k)
4th Rounder (Cleveland)
RP Deolis Guerra ($300k)
RP Alex Claudio ($300k)
$6M salary for 2016 (Half of Alvarez's salary)
Nationals trade:
SP Matt Harvey (Type B - 16: $8.50M, 17: $9.70M, 18: $10.90M, 19: $12.10M)
Harvey is going under the knife and missing the rest of this season, and procedure he's having tends to have hit or miss results. So while the name value is there, it's still a gamble as to whether he returns to form.
Alvarez is coming back from surgery, and is not that far removed from a year where he posted a sub-3 ERA, was named an All-Star, and even got Cy Young votes. He'll be back on the mound sometime in the coming month.
That being said, both pitchers are somewhat of a gamble. Harvey is the bigger of the two, but since he also poses to provide a potentially bigger reward, I also send a high-ceiling young reliever in Zych, three other young quality relief prospects (two already in the majors), as well as a fourth-round pick and 6M of salary covered for the year.
