Well I mean it is kinda good to follow the draft in case someone you want to pick is taken before you can pick them... That's kinda important. You are more just throwing insults at people now than making legitimate arguments. I mean I am honestly sorry that this happened cuz I was originally on the side of losing fisher so I get why this sucks and it's hard cuz he is a good player but unfortunatly Max it doesn't look like you have a leg to stand on here. You did get compensated, and I guess idk how you get through a draft without drafting people other people have already drafted. Which would involve you looking at previously drafted people. Then this would have been resolved in 2014 instead of now.

I didn't get compensated, the franchise did before I even got here. It's an issue that should have been solved by the LMs/Master Roster People/whomever in 2011 or 2012. Instead, it's now 2016 and the issue has carried over from a previous tenure to mine yet I am being royally screwed for no reason. LMs said I had the player, now the randomly say I don't, and somehow that's MY fault? Un-freaking-believable!
And I had the 9th pick and then not another pick until round 3. I didn't even pay attention to the 2nd round because I didn't need to.

Max,
First of all, I really don't appreciate you calling the LM's out like that. If you want to get personal, you yourself have volunteered to be on the league staff and haven't helped me out a great amount while I've put a lot of time into this. You volunteered to be a part of helping with the Google Docs. If you expect perfection from me in dealing with the Google Docs, in which a vast amount of players are listed, I would expect to be paid for the extensive amount of time I would have to put in to making sure that was always possible. I do this on my own time, and I do a very thorough job, through which we have usually less than 5 of these cases a year. The League Staff has not told you, "Max, you are the owner of Derek Fisher", I'm not getting your lingo on that. It was a mistake made on both ends, as we both (you as the manager of your own team, and me as the manager of the league) overlooked the drafting of a player listed on another teams' roster.
Looking at this from a league standpoint, the Pittsburgh Pirates are the Pittsburgh Pirates, and that team has been rightly compensated for the drafting of a unsigned high school player in Fisher. They received the 5th round pick in place of the one that was used to select Derek Fisher on another player (or, in this case, they traded the pick). This is how each and every situation is handled when teams need to be compensated for a mishap on the Google Docs. For example, a slight mistake was made in the spelling of a players name or a contract was typed in incorrectly.
Demanding a top 15 draft pick in this years draft is not fair to the rest of the owners who have been compensated for their own players when mistakes have happened. The players current value is not taking into consideration, only the value of the pick that was used to acquire that player. Consequently, I don't believe that the Pittsburgh Pirates should receive the 11th pick in this years draft in respect to the other GM's and to not give any special preference to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
However, as the situation for a few years and, as a result, you have had to negotiate trades differently, I am willing to meet you in the middle and offer you the same compensation that the Pittsburgh Pirates received in 2012, which would be the pick following the 1st pick in the 5th Round of the 2016 Amateur Draft. This would follow the true owner of the 1st pick of the 5th Round 2016 Amateur Draft as a compensation pick.
We can't start thinking beyond the franchises in this league. A problem like, "I shouldn't be penalized to cover cap on a certain player... the owner before me did that" or other things of that nature could arise. Max, definitely don't take this the wrong way, I love having you here, but I've seen many GM's come and go in this league, and it's important to keep the stability of teams first, then GM's second, rather than the other way around. That's why we vote on trades to keep the competitive balance of the league, etc.
I hope this will be fair compensation, and we can move on to playing some great fantasy baseball.

What about a comp pick at the end of Round 2? That's the round Fisher was taken in in 2014 when he was "legally" drafted. It is not close to Fisher's current value, but considering the PIT franchise has already received some comp it mitigates that factor. The only reason I ask for "additional" comp is that the situation has persisted in 2016 -- it is no longer only relevant in 2011/12. Trades were altered by me having Fisher; hell, I went through an entire period of decimating my amazing farm system and I made a point of keeping Fisher because of how much I wanted him and believed in him. To lose that for nothing (or a 5th round pick which, in all honesty, has very minimal impact/value) is disheartening and makes me feel a bit slighted.
I think this solution is a compromise that is best for the league and the future.

I just don't think any compensation should be given, as it was already given. I went back through a bunch of the trades and basically that 5th round pick was in a trade Adam Dunn, 2012 1.3 pick, and Dellin Betances. Down the line those guys turned into Tookie Tousaint, Spencer Turnbull, Evan Longoria, Andre Ethier, Joe Kelly, etc etc. it seems that the previous owner used the 5.1 pick well, and it was involved in netting many players and picks. Without would those trades have gone down? I'm not sure but it seems the compensation at least fits.

I think it's important we get a ruling here before we get too deep into the draft so as to not inconvenience anyone
And also Jared, the reason I feel I am owed more is because the issue has gone on until now. I was under the very reasonable assumption that I owned Fisher all this time and shaped numerous trade discussions and plans around him (as in, me keeping him). To now lose him, my best prospect and a guy I kept through an entire minor league gutting, is devastating and quite frankly unfair in my opinion (for anyone, not just myself)

They already gave a ruling. I also think you should not be discussing this on the forums any further but rather with the other league staff in private. Giving you a compensation pick would be entirely unfair to the rest of the league.

I think the fairest way to settle this would be to give Max the last compensation pick (between Rounds 3 and 4). This is still a pretty valuable pick, and it also doesn't upset the rest of the draft order greatly. This is compensate Max for the potential deals he's missed out on, while not giving him too much as there has been some compensation down the line based upon the pick. Does that work? Trying to strike a deal for both sides here.

I think the thread should be open to all of us so we can all have our opinion so I agree with Alex on that, that being said I also agree with Jared and Will, the franchise was compensated. You are not the franchise, you are merely a GM like the rest of us GM's come and go. If you leave he franchise will continue, (note I'm not saying you should leave I'm just stating a fact if you leave a new GM would be assigned to the Pirates and they would move on, the same would happen if I were to leave the Mariners) but I don't believe you as a person require compensation nor does the franchise as it was already compensated for what Fisher was at the time which was a 5th round pick and nothing more. Im sorry you got screwed but it could have happened to anyone, and if it had happened to anyone else you'd probably be saying the same things we are

I think this sets a bad precedent for any future mistakes. The chain of events has shown to properly compensate the pick and Max has essentially screamed loud enough in order to get an EXTRA draft pick. I would kill for an extra draft pick; it is not a compensation to be given out lightly. Since the recent Rob Whalen mix-up gave a 5th round comp pick for a league roster mistake, I think that is about as high as you can go. Fisher's current value should have nothing to do with the level of compensation.
Already, we have gone from offering no compensation to a 5th round comp to a 3rd round comp. Honestly, it'd be easier if the commissioner made a decision so we can move on.

I agree with Will. Fishers current value should have nothing to do with the compensation, because if he was a bust, this wouldn't matter. There is no way to know how a player will play after being drafted.

It's a tough break but the team has already benefitted. It makes no sense to compensate twice. The 5th round comp pick should be it.
Considering better compensation due to the volume, extended duration, and large group conversation(s) / negotiations of disagreement is a bad precedent and not a good way to approach this.

We could just add pick for everyone, I don't want anyone to be killed over getting a draft pick. I would have made different trade proposals to the Pirates if he didn't have Fisher on the spreadsheet. Sorry for making light of the situation, but the Pirates have been given compensation already. If compensation is given at this point, it seems like it should be done because we as a league are being nice to Max specifically and trying to err on the side of being too generous. However, if this is going to viewed as a precedent for future decisions, it would be a mistake to award a 2nd compensation pick to the Pirates as an organization. To clarify, as a person I say give Max the compensation pick (so what if your wrong for being nice), as an owner, the compensation pick has already been awarded. Being nice trumps logic most of the time, I say either make a decision, put it to a vote if that helps, and then we can move forward.

I think the consensus is that we have a vote to decide what to do in this situation. Based on how "quickly" the draft has moved thus far, we should have time for the league to vote and get a decision.
