EXTENSIONS, RESTRICTION TAGS
EXTENSIONS
Each team has one Team Extension to use on a player whose contract has expired each off-season. The extension may be up to three years in length. Teams may not give an extension on a player who could otherwise undergo arbitration.
After the MLB regular season, Extension Value will be determined by a weighted points system. Each potential free agent will average their two highest season points totals out of the last three seasons (omitting the lowest total) to determine their 3-Year Weighted Points Total.
With the weighted points total, each Free Agent will have their Free Agent Type determined by the following table:
Based on Free Agent Type and position, the multiplier for that Type will be multiplied by Weighted Points to determine the Extension Value.
The minimum Extension Value will be $5.0M for Type C Free Agents.
Players with less than 2 years of MLB service time will average all MLB seasons rather than use Weighted Points. I.e. if a player only has one MLB season, that player will simply take that season's total x the multiplier.
Players with both pitcher and hitter eligibility on the Fantrax platform will use both hitting and pitching multipliers. Hitting points will use the hitting multiplier, and pitching points will use the pitching multiplier. The tag value will be the sum of both.

RESTRICTION TAG
Each team has two restriction tags to use on players whose contracts have expired each off-season. Players with a Restriction Tag give their owners the ability to match the offer the player is signed to by another team in Free Agency to retain the player. Teams may not use a Restriction Tag on a player who could otherwise undergo arbitration.
Teams have 48 hours from the point the player is signed to match the offer or decline the offer and allow the other team to sign that player. If after 48 hours no response has been received, the team who signed the player via free agency will be awarded the player.
If a player that was given a restriction tag goes unsigned throughout the off-season, the team will lose those restriction rights on the last day of the off-season in which the tag was given.
TAG DETERMINATION
Teams must send all free agency information to the Commissioner, which includes players who are designated for Team Extensions, Restriction Tags, options accepted or declined, and arbitration decisions by a date determined each off-season by the Commissioner.
