Another proposal.
What if we allowed teams to offer an extension up to 5 years to an upcoming free agent instead of 3? Now that the players are more fairly valued, I think this could work!

I don’t think so, I just think 5 years is too long. 3 is a good number then you can grab them back in FA if you really want them.

If we are eliminating a Restricted Tag to get better churn of free agents, this would seem to be a counter productive change in the other direction.

If we are eliminating a Restricted Tag to get better churn of free agents, this would seem to be a counter productive change in the other direction. I don't see them as competing ideas. It's not about getting more free agents. It's about getting more players on fair contracts relative to their value. Reducing restriction tags creates less hesitancy in bidding for average players that are given restriction tags because they just have them laying around. Extending the extensions also reduces cap space and keeps players on fair value contracts determined by our weighted point system for longer periods if a team so desires. It's more realistic too.
