Hey guys!
Just a proposal I've been mulling over for awhile.
A limit on the amount of money a team can send out or receive. I think our league is in a FANTASTIC spot right now, especially with the amount of teams competing. To continue to make it better, I think this is another step we could take.
Teams cannot receive or send out total salary coverage for a league year above a certain amount: 2023 season - $50m 2024 season - $35m 2025 season - $25m (future limit going forward)
Open to thoughts or other numbers! Just what first came to mind.
Thanks!
Alex

I feel like this is one of those things where at times it might seem like an issue but really isn't. I feel a rule like this would hurt rebuilding teams and would keep some competitive teams from going all in on a given year.
There are only 2 teams that are getting over 50M in cap coverage this year. COL and SD. SD wouldn't be the competitive team they currently are with out making trades that had cap coverage involved. COL would have to make moves where they're trading cap in order to make any moves where they get cap coverage.
There are 6 teams slated to receive cap coverage next year and only 1 team slated to receive cap coverage in 2024 and 2025. Those numbers being covered are small. The league has adapted over the years and rebuilding teams no longer cover cap beyond the current year or maybe next year. While competing teams are having to pay up for that cap coverage.
Personally I think the only thing a rule like this would do we discourage rebuilding teams from being aggressive for FAs since they would be limited to how much cap they could eat in any future trades.

Just to add on - it's not like the compensation coverage comes from thin air - this is the result of other assets being transferred, such as draft picks and prospects that have now just been converted from potential value to present value (cap).

The only rule that needs review right now is the trade approval rule. But I’m sure some of y’all will veto this comment too.
