Two-way players (specifically Ohtani) have been a recent debate in the Discord server on how compensation should work for them. If they were on the same scale as normal players, they would cost a fortune as they are more productive than just a hitter or a pitcher. My issue with just a straight multiplier of the tag value is that Fantrax does not split two-way players into separate players and as such they are restricted to just hitting or pitching in a game. In the case of Ohtani (and likely any future two-way players), he often hits while pitching. This even prompted a rule change in MLB (a team can list a player as the pitcher and designated hitter on the days he starts, then remove him in one role but not the other). Until there is a way to separate two-way players and have both a hitter version and a pitcher version available on the same day, I think we need to fix how they are compensated.
Idea:
Using our multiplier system (https://baseknock.proboards.com/thread/7430/4-2-extensions-restriction-tag), two-way players are worth all weighted pitcher points and 4/5ths of their hitting points. Additionally, as the tag proposal benefits the owner in reducing the amount the player would be compensated, the player will not be worth any additional compensation picks.
I think that this most accurately reflects how the system should work given that two-way players are one player in Fantrax. If there comes a time that they split the player (as Yahoo does), I think that he would be worth two compensation picks as the one player is eligible for two lineup spots. However, until then, I believe this would be the best solution.
I'm happy to take suggestions on the proposal and how it should change before being put to a vote. I've added a poll to gauge interest in the idea.
