Game of the Week
LA Dodgers (2-0) vs SF Giants (2-0).
There is no question that this is the game of the week. The 3rd and 5th best scoring teams? Yes. Division rivals? Yes. Previous lovers? Probably. The Giants offense has been hot, minus the catcher spot, but the lack of SP starts this week could be the deciding factor in the game. He's got 2 starts from Kyle Muller and Lucas Giolito who have both been mediocre to start the season. His other starts include Jose Berrios, Michael Grove, Luis Garcia, and Shane McClanahan. Of that group, only McClanahan is worth counting on. The Dodgers on the other hand, have 2 starts from ace Kevin Gausman and 10 total projected SP starts. I don't how Will's projection sees this matchup going, either way, it'll be fun to watch.
Other games of significance
Detroit Tigers (2-0) vs Arizona Diamondbacks (1-1)
The upstart Tigers look to stay undefeated against a Diamondbacks team that underwhelmed against the Dodgers. The D-Backs desperately need a win this week while the Tigers would really send a clear statement to the league that they're a legit playoff caliber team. The D-Backs are currently projected to get 10 starts while the Tigers only have 6, maybe 7, starts. I'd be inclined to bet on the Diamondbacks right now but Jon is rumored to be close to acquiring an SP who can help next week.
Cleveland Guardians (1-1) vs Chicago White Sox (1-1)
On the surface this looks like just another boring matchup between 1-1 teams, but in reality, the AL Central is such a close race between the top 3 teams, that every matchup this early on could shape what moves the losing teams make the rest of the season. Both squads have their warts but I'm inclined to take Cleveland who features a filled out offense and a full pitching staff.
Chicago Cubs (2-0) vs St Louis Cardinals (2-0)
I can't believe I'm including this matchup in my preview but it's mostly out of love for my son. I do have to give Tanner props for starting out the season 2-0. He's a heavy underdog coming into this game and I am ye' who has little faith; but the numbers do give him some hope. 2 start weeks out of Eduardo Rodriguez, Jack Flaherty, and Josiah Gray bring his total number of starts up to 8. Maybe he adds a few players via trade early this week, maybe he doesn't. The Cards have the upper hand especially with a 2-start week out of the now healthy Max Fried.
