Week 3 Power Rankings
The Force is Strong With This One Tier
1. (1) Nationals – The cream rises to the top
2. (2) Mariners – See above
3. (3) Giants - Big win for Das. A loss and he’d have been 2 games out of first in the division.
4. (4) Blue Jays – Just keep swimming, swimming, just keep swimming.
Hello There Tier
5. (11) Guardians – What a blowout victory for Thomas. I thought Caleb would put up more of a fight after his big acquisition earlier in the week.
6. (8) Orioles – As each week passes, I like this team more and more. His rotation is getting a big boost next week with Tony Gonsolin returning from the IL.
7. (5) Dodgers – Tough loss for Scott. He put up a decent amount of points, but Das hit the 400 point mark…that’s a steep hill for anyone to climb.
8. (7) Reds – An underwhelming performance this week for the Reds, fortunately it was against the lowly Pirates. He better bring his A game next week against the Cubs for a matchup of undefeated teams.
9. (9) Marlins – Travis and the Marlins easily dispatched his Eskimo Bro, Zach.
Train Yourself to Let Go of Everything You Fear to Lose Tier
10. (10) Diamondbacks – I expected the Diamondbacks to pull off the victory this week; the question now is, which way does Kyle decide to go with his team?
11. (14) Astros – My hubby has me doubting my own week 1 ranking of him (16). With Mookie heading for SS eligibility and Joe Musgrove finally healthy (and seemingly staying in Houston), things are looking up. Still not a ton of depth here, but Tyrone Taylor is due back soon and should slot into the 3rd OF slot with Mookie shifting to SS.
12. (16) Cubs – Everyone expected Tanner’s Cubs to be 3-0 to start the season, right? What an incredible job my baby boy has done. Enjoy this win tonight but get ready for battle tomorrow; the Reds are coming for a visit.
13. (6) Cardinals – While not nearly as bad as Travis’s collapse last week against Josh, this one might sting more since it was a divisional foe. Nik is now sitting a game behind both Cincinnati and Chicago. The Cards acquired Nick Ahmed, but he may need additional reinforcements on offense.
14. (12) Angels – Eventually, Derrick’s luck has to run out, right? A poor decision by the Brewers to leave Yan Gomes on the bench today was the difference between winning and losing this week.
15. (13) Tigers – Tough loss for Jon, but there is no time to mope, the Guardians roll into town riding a 2 game win streak and first place in the division is on the line.
16. (15) White Sox – Caleb faced the Guardians at the wrong time. His performance wasn't awful, Thomas’s was just that great. He did make a decent trade this week to address some holes on offense.
Difficult To See, Always in Motion is the Future Tier
17. (17) Braves – Jared picked up a W this week thanks to facing the lowly Yankees. He’ll have a tougher test next week against the top ranked Nationals.
18. (23) Royals – Look at Bill and his Royals sitting there at 2-1, tied atop the AL Central…again. This smells similar to last year’s squad where he made a surprise appearance in the postseason. I don’t think he will have that kind of luck this year, but who knows?
19. (22) Rockies – This was a victory that I’m not sure the Rockies really wanted to have. It all depends on what Alex wants to do with his squad this season; rebuild, retool, compete? If it’s anything but compete, then it was a yucky win.
20. (19) Rangers – He never really had much of a chance against the 2-time defending champ Mariners. Sitting at 1-2, he’s got some decisions to make on which way he wants to proceed the rest of the season.
21. (18) Mets – I expected a bit more fight from the Mets this week than they put up, but it wasn’t in the cards for Jimmy.
I Have a Bad Feeling About This
22. (20) Padres – This was a really good matchup, but unfortunately Denver’s team ran out of gas and dropped a game to the Rockies.
23. (21) Brewers – Gaylord and the Brewers nearly pulled off the upset and beat the Angels. The rebuild Gods stepped in and said ‘not today’.
24. (24) Rays – An expected loss this week against the Orioles, but what a nice 1-2 punch at the top of his rotation with Jacob DeGrom and Taj Bradley.
25. (25) Twins – I keep expecting the Twins to make a deal to ship out some of their assets, but after a few seasons of Matt being in the league, I really should be lowering those expectations.
26. (26) Athletics – Another week, another loss. At least Logan O’Hoppe won’t burn through a Pre-Arb year.
If I Could Rank All Of These Teams Last, I Would Tier
27. (27) Red Sox – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
28. (28) Pirates – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
29. (29) Yankees – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
30. (30) Phillies – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
Game of the Week
Cubs (3-0) vs. Reds (3-0)
A battle of unbeaten division rivals. The winner will sit alone at the top of the division. I’m excited to see how this plays out. Don’t be shocked if the Cubs go out and make a mid-week acquisition to boost their odds.
