Week 4 Power Rankings
Roads? Where We’re Going, We Don’t Need Roads Tier
1. (1) Nationals – Bryan Reynolds and Freddie Freeman carried the offense this week while Jordan Montgomery led the pitching staff. Reinforcements are on the way with Gavin Stone supposedly getting called up to start Wednesday’s game.
2. (2) Mariners – The Mariners have hit their mid-season stride 4 games into the season. Just in time for next week’s big matchup against the Astros
3. (3) Giants – Another win for Das who keeps humping despite subpar production from the catcher position. He's getting Bryce Harper back this week, watch out. He still hasn’t maxed out starts in any week this season, I’d like to see him go out and add an arm or two. Slide into my DM’s, Das.
4. (4) Blue Jays – This team, much like Stephen, is put together quite nicely. Solid production from each spot in the lineup. His team might need to play a bit better next week as he heads to Baltimore with first place on the line.
When This Baby Hits 88 Miles Per Hour, You're Gonna See Some Serious Shit Tier
5. (5) Guardians – Back-to-back weeks of stellar point totals has his team moving closer to the top tier of teams. He’s not there yet but if Justin Steele and Vince Velazquez keep pitching above expectations, they could be making an appearance in the ‘elite’ tier.
6. (7) Dodgers – Nice rebound victory for the Dodgers. He almost hit 400 points and looks to put together a win streak against the White Sox next week.
7. (9) Marlins – This was a good warmup matchup for the Marlins in preparation for the Nationals next week. I have no doubt Travis will be bringing his A game.
8. (6) Orioles – Mike must have made the decision to rest some of his starters this week in advance of his matchup with Stephen and his visiting Blue Jays. Not a very good showing before a yuuuge matchup with playoff implications.
9. (11) Astros – My Bae has his team moving full speed ahead into his matchup with his buddy, Phil. That matchup next week will be one of 3 matchups featuring the 1st and 2nd place teams in each division.
10. (12) Cubs – What an incredible start to the season. The miracle run continues into week 5. The Cubs have done a remarkable job being patient in the early going. No irrational trades as Tanner just waits out each week’s matchup. He’ll have one more week to assess his team with an easy W on the schedule versus A’s. I imagine a trade for reinforcements will be coming later in the week before his big matchup against the Dodgers.
11. (13) Cardinals – The Cardinals were sweating mid-week as the Brewers had this matchup looking like a coin flip. Fortunately for Nik, his team decided to turn up the heat and put away the Brewers. This was a much-needed win after a disappointing loss to the Cubs last week.
It’s Your Kids, Marty. Something Has Got To Be Done About Your Kids Tier
12. (16) White Sox – A good bounce back performance for the White Sox after they shit the bed last week against the Guardians. Lots of guys sitting on the IL that Caleb could use as trade chips to boost the active roster.
13. (8) Reds – While the loss to the Cubs hurts, I think the loss of Robbie Ray is going to hurt even more. Ray is gone for the season and the Reds don’t have a ton of depth behind him. If he wants to have a real shot to compete this season, he might have to trade those injured pitchers for healthy players.
14. (10) Diamondbacks – The Diamondbacks were never going to beat the Giants. He’s still only 1 game behind the Giants and Dodgers, but he trails by a couple hundred points. Kyle needs to make some moves if he hopes to catch Das or Scott.
15. (14) Angels – Losing to a division foe sucks, but losing to a division foe because you don’t have a roster full of active players due to yourself being an inactive owner? Well, that’s just stoopid.
Your Future Is Whatever You Make It, So Make It A Good One Tier
16. (20) Rangers – Not a great performance by the Rangers, but it’s still a win. He faces the Angels in a big matchup between the 3rd and 4th place teams. The winner stays just 2 games back, while the loser drops to 3 games out.
17. (19) Rockies – Well well well. Look who worked his way back to .500? Next week’s matchup against the Diamondbacks feels like a cat fight between two high school girls who have beef over a TikTok video that got posted online. Lots of clawing, scratching, hair pulling, and hopefully one of their tiddies falling out. Alex needs a win here as he has the Cardinals and the Marlins in week 5 and 6.
18. (15) Tigers – Tough to win when you’re facing one of the hottest teams in the league in Cleveland. Even tougher to win with only 4 starts from your pitchers for the week. I’ve been waiting for Jon to go out and add pitching but he’s just sitting on his hands.
19. (17) Braves – The Braves didn’t stand much of a chance this week against the Nationals. They’re currently sitting 2 games back in the division. They have a difficult schedule after next weeks cake walk matchup against the Phillies. Jared might have to start making some trades if he has any chance to reel off some W’s.
20. (21) Mets – The Mets kept it pretty close to the Marlins this week in spite of getting just 1 start from his pitchers. It would have been a big win for Jimmy who has 3 easy victories ahead of him.
21. (24) Rays – The Rays didn’t really win; it was more that the Phillies lost. My cousin Alex has this team sitting at 2-2.
Hello? McFly? Tier
22. (22) Padres – The Padres fall to 0-4 with a blowout loss to the Dodgers. Looking at the next 4 weeks of the schedule, there is only 1 game that he remotely has a chance to win. Denver could be sitting at 0-8 at the end of May. We should see the fire sale starting soon.
23. (23) Brewers – Another almost upset victory for Gaylord and his Brewers. Ya gotta be quicker than that.
24. (18) Royals – The Royals are who we thought they are. That 2-1 record wasn’t because of Bill assembling a good team, it was because of good scheduling. Expect to see several more triple digit losses over the next few weeks.
25. (25) Twins – Crickets in the Twin Cities. Still.
26. (26) Athletics – The only real bright spot for the A’s is that they’ll soon be moving to Vegas.
If I Could Rank All Of These Teams Last I Would Tier
27. (27) Red Sox – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
28. (28) Pirates – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
29. (29) Yankees – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
30. (30) Phillies – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
Games of the Week (take your pick)
4-0 Mariners vs 3-1 Astros
This has been one of the better, more consistent rivalries in the league since Will jumped ship and found himself in the AL West. Phil is looking at maxing out his starts at pitcher and he’s coming off a scorching hot week 4. Will is only looking at 6 starts from his pitchers. I don’t see the Astros coming within 100 points of the Mariners.
4-0 Blue Jays vs 3-1 Orioles
To me, this is the most intriguing matchup of the week. Stephen hasn’t been challenged by anyone in his own division in what seems like a decade. Mike has finally found himself relevant and the matchup Gods might be in his favor this week. Stephen’s top pitchers have difficult offensive opponents (Keller vs. Rays, Darvish vs Dodgers, Kershaw vs Padres). Both teams are projected to max out their 10 starts. On the season, the Blue Jays have been the better team, but I believe this matchup is going to be closer than the computer projections say.
4-0 Nationals vs 3-1 Marlins
Lastly, Tim vs. Travis. Travis won 2 games to Tim’s 1 last season, one of those being a playoff spot clinching win in week 19, and the other, a playoff win in the divisional round. The Nationals have got 4 of his top scoring pitchers looking at 2-start weeks (Morton, Scherzer, Ashcraft, Contreras). They’ll also be welcoming back the sticky man, Max Scherzer. It’s hard to ever count out that asshole Travis, but I think the Nationals run away with this one by mid-week.
