Week 6 Power Rankings
World Series Favorites
1a. (1) Nationals – A big W against the previously undefeated Blue Jays has the Nats 3 games up in the NL East
1b. (2) Mariners – The Mariners are mowing teams down. Phil must be getting bored of this.
The Contenders
3. (3) Giants – Das picks up a nice victory against the Marlins. Still no trades for starting pitching…
4. (4) Blue Jays – The Blue Jays offense disappeared this week against the Nats. I expect them to go out and get a bat or two on the trade market.
5. (5) Guardians – Not a great performance this week by the Guardians, but it was good enough to win.
6. (8) Cubs – This was a hell of a matchup for both teams. I don’t think many people gave the Cubs a shot, but Tanner rallied the troops for yet another underdog victory.
7. (6) Cardinals – The Cardinals had a tougher time dispatching the Rockies than they’d have liked. Nik’s still sitting in a good spot to make the playoffs but those pitcher injuries have been brutal.
8. (7) White Sox – The White Sox slept walked through their victory against the Yankees. Too bad the real life Yankees aren’t that bad.
9. (11) Orioles – Mike won this week but he lost starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen to the 60-Day IL and CJ Cron to the 10-Day IL. Time to make a trade?
Good, Not Great Teams
10. (12) Diamondbacks – The Diamondbacks are sitting there lingering around at 4-2. He's always been a lingerer, man. I’d like to see Kyle make a splash on the trade market.
11. (13) Astros – The ‘Stros picked up a victory against AWOL GM, Matt. He also indicated Alex Cobb was available for trade. Is something big happening in Space City?
12. (9) Dodgers – This felt like a must win game for the Dodgers with the Diamondbacks getting an easy W and the Giants already a game ahead. Unfortunately, they lost to the undefeated Cubbies. Scott probably needs to go out and acquire some MLB reinforcements.
13. (14) Reds – Big victory for the Reds who should be getting back Jose Altuve soon.
14. (15) Angels – Angels won. So happy for them…said no one ever
15. (10) Marlins – The Marlins are likely out of the NL East race after a loss to the Giants and it’s only been 6 games. They’re on the outside looking in for a wild card spot. Might need to make a trade or two especially with Lodolo hitting the IL.
Teams That Need To Make A Move As Either A Buyer or Seller
16. (16) Tigers – The Tigers picked up an easy W and they hinted at possibly making a few roster editions on this week’s league podcast. Looking forward to those deals.
17. (17) Braves – Just when you think the Braves are about to jump into the playoff race…they shit the bed against the Reds.
18. (19) Mets – The Mets struggled to put away the Pirates but still managed to claw back to .500
Focus On 2024
19. (20) Rockies – The Rockies had the Cardinals sweating all week but ultimately, the better team prevailed
20. (21) Rangers – The Rangers lost to Baltimore this week and Ahmed indicated he’s selling. It’s too bad because he put together a nice roster in the offseason.
21. (23) Padres – The Padres finally grabbed their first victory of the season. I think this team is a lot better than their record, but the injuries have been rough in the early going this season.
22. (22) Brewers – The Brewers dropped a heartbreaker to the Padres. We’re still waiting on them to sell off their vets.
23. (18) Rays – The Rays got some love from me last week in the rankings…I’m all out of love for them this week…what a miserable performance
24. (24) Royals – The Royals lost this week and are finally starting to ship out some expiring contracts.
If I Could Rank All Of These Teams Last I Would Tier
25. (25) Twins – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
26. (26) Athletics – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
27. (27) Red Sox – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
28. (28) Pirates – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
29. (29) Yankees – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
30. (30) Phillies – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
Game of The Week
5-1 Guardians vs. 5-1 Giants
In a game between two division leaders, I think this matchup could go down to the wire. The Guardians are coming off a major down week (still got the W) so they’ll need to get their shit together if they expect to beat the Giants who’ve been playing reasonably well of late.
6-0 Cubs vs 4-2 Diamondbacks
Both squads are more similar than their records show. The Diamondbacks need this victory more than the Cubs do. They are clinging to a playoff spot right now but a loss here would put a major dent to their post-season hopes. I think the winning streak ends for the Cubs this week with a loss to the D-Backs.
4-2 Baltimore Orioles vs 4-2 Detroit Tigers
This is a matchup with playoff implications for both teams. There are 6 teams with 4-2 records in the American League and only 3 playoff spots. Both teams have weak schedules the rest of the season, but a win for either team is going to be a boost to their playoff odds. I’d like to see them both make some trades early in the week; they’ve both got pressing needs.
