Week 7 Power Rankings (with images)
World Series Favorites
1a. (1a) Nationals 7-0 – An easy W for the Nationals this week but next week they’ll face off against Nik and the Cardinals who welcomed back Corey Seager this week.
1b. (1b) Mariners 7-0 – The Mariners didn’t break a sweat against the Royals and remain undefeated.
The Contenders
3. (6) Cubs 7-0 – Tanner keeps the incredible run alive. He’ll be 8-0 after his bye week vs the Phillies before heading off to DC to face his Mother’s Nationals.
4. (5) Guardians 6-1 – Yuuuuuge victory for the Guardians. Especially with the White Sox nipping at their heels. Every victory matters right now for Thomas because the White Sox won’t be losing for a few weeks.
5. (7) Cardinals 6-1 – The injury bug has hit Nik’s team in the nuts time and time again, but the Cards got a big boost this week with Corey Seager. A matchup against the top ranked Nationals is on deck.
6. (3) Giants 5-2 – What a great matchup between Das and Thomas. Unfortunately, Das ran out of gas at the end of the week. He’s still atop the division but, as I’ve said before, he should be making some moves. At least Gary Sanchez got called up this week.
7. (4) Blue Jays 5-2 – This was a loss the Blue Jays didn’t see coming. It should be a major topic of discussion on this week’s podcast. Will Stephen make a reactionary trade or will he goosfraba himself into staying the course.
8. (8) White Sox 5-2 – Caleb and the Sox picked up an easy win this week. The White Sox can rest their starters for the next 3 weeks (Red Sox, Rays, Mets), before a big game against the Mariners.
The Playoff Teams (I think)
9. (11) Astros 5-2 – Easy W this week for Will and the ‘Stros. Big game on tap next week against the Blue Jays.
10. (12) Dodgers 4-3 – The Dodgers picked up a win this week and have a few easy wins on the schedule which should be a nice boost to their playoff hopes after a couple of tough losses.
11. (9) Orioles 4-3 – The Orioles almost picked up the W. At least Mike listened to me and went out and added 2 arms to his rotation. I think he’s closed the gap with the Blue Jays significantly and he’s still only 1 game back despite the loss.
12. (13) Reds 5-2 – The Reds won while welcoming back Jose Altuve this week and he’ll need to bring his A game next week as they play the Mariners.
On The Outside Looking In
13. (16) Tigers 5-2 – The Tigers went out and added Jon Gray to the rotation and it was just enough to pull off a victory against the Orioles.
14. (10) Diamondbacks 4-3 – The Diamondbacks made a few head scratching trades this week while also losing to the Cubs. Someone check Kyle’s vital signs, I think he’s got a fever…and the only cure…is more cowbell…and a competent GM.
15. (14) Angels 5-2 – Yay. Go Angels.
Is It 2024 Yet?
16. (19) Rockies 3-4 – Solid performance this week from the Rockies but it sounds like they’re trying to sell some veterans at this point. Thanks for beating Travis though.
17. (15) Marlins 3-4 – It seems like the Marlins are waving the white flag with their big trade this week. Travis moved several starting players from his roster while losing to the Rockies.
18. (20) Rangers 3-4 – What an upset victory for the Rangers. I’m thoroughly impressed by their team performance against a World Series contender. Ahmed has already made some sell moves this week, so I wouldn’t anticipate any more upsets from the Rangers this season; but this was a big morale boost.
19. (17) Braves 3-4 – Apparently the Braves are content with being content.
20. (18) Mets 3-4 – Apparently the Mets are also content with being content. Either one of these clubs could have made a couple cheap additions to their team and been in the mix for a wild card spot.
21. (22) Brewers 2-5 – The Brewers picked up a win that they might not have wanted. I’m still waiting on them to make some tradezzz.
22. (23) Rays 4-3 – Not much going on down in Tampa with this team. Time to relocate half their games to Montreal?
23. (21) Padres 1-6 – An expected loss to the Nationals has this team sinking further down the standings. On a positive note, they do put up a nice amount of points each week. Plenty of assets to sell. I think there will be a fire sale soon.
If I Could Rank All Of These Teams Last I Would Tier
24. (24) Royals 2-5 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would. Sorry Bill.
25. (25) Twins 0-7 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
26. (26) Athletics 0-7 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
27. (27) Red Sox 1-6 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
28. (28) Pirates 0-7 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
29. (29) Yankees 0-7 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
30. (30) Phillies 0-7 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
Games of The Week
7-0 Nationals vs. 6-1 Cardinals
This game is more about NL Central positioning than anything else. The Nationals have basically wrapped up the NL East and the Cardinals are almost a lock for a playoff spot. The question for Nik is, will it be as a wild card team or a division winner?
5-2 Astros vs. 5-2 Blue Jays
Both teams were heavily favored to win their matchups last week but only one team came away victorious. This feels like a sneakily important game for both teams. There are several teams vying for only a handful of playoff spots. A loss by the Astros could have him out of the wild card slot and a loss by the Blue Jays could see him tied with the Orioles for the AL East.
6-1 Guardians vs. 4-3 Orioles
This is a game the Orioles need to win way more than the Guardians do. Mike added a couple arms to his rotation and I think that’s going to be a major boost. The Guardians are hot right now so something has to give between these two fuck boys.
