Week 9 Power Rankings (no gifs, sorry)
World Series Favorite
1. (1) Mariners 9-0 – Yaaaaaawn.
The Contenders
2. (2) Nationals 9-0 – The Nats were sweating all week. Poor performances from the rotation made this game much closer than it should have been. It might be time to address the pitching woes.
3. (4) Giants 7-2 – The Giants got a huge boost to their rotation with Triston McKenzie getting activated. Also picked up a victory vs the Braves.
4. (5) Blue Jays 7-2 – The Jays grabbed a win this week against the newly relocated England Athletics (if this joke escapes you, Jon has been galivanting all over England this week).
5. (6) White Sox 7-2 – Got to love that last place schedule.
6. (3) Cubs 8-1 – It truly was a valiant effort on part of the Cubs. With just a few more starts, this contest could have gone the other way. They did make a trade to add a few more starters and I think that will be a big boost to their squad moving forward.
7. (8) Guardians 7-2 – The Guardians won but suffered a big loss to their rotation as Justin Steele went down with a forearm injury. That’s always scary.
8. (7) Cardinals 7-2 – They scored a W against the lowly Mets but the point total wasn’t great.
9. (9) Orioles 6-3 – Easy W for the Orioles this week who went out and made a yuuuge trade to acquire Corbin Carroll for several top ranked prospects.
The Playoff Teams
10. (10) Dodgers 6-3 – A lackluster performance was enough to get the W against the last place Phillies but I’m still waiting for the Dodgers to make a splash on the trade market.
11. (11) Tigers 7-2 – Big victory for the Tigers to keep pace with the rest of the AL Central.
12. (12) Reds 6-3 – The Reds needed this win badly, good job.
13. (14) Diamondbacks 6-3 – The D-Backs picked up a win to move to 6-3 and they’re still lingering around. They’re not putting up a ton of points, but it’s been enough to get the job done so far.
14. (15) Astros 6-3 – The Astros slept through their matchup against the Red Sox. Maybe the retool is going to be punted for another season.
15. (13) Angels 6-3 – Good loss by the Angels. I think 28 BK teams are happy they lost.
The 2024 Teams
16. (16) Rockies 3-5 – I was expecting a little more from the Rockies this week but unfortunately for them (and for my pick em’ ranking), they couldn’t put together a good performance.
17. (21) Padres 3-6 – Padres with an easy W. He’s still got some assets to sell so expect some trades soon.
18. (17) Rays 5-4 – Their loss to the White Sox was expected, but they’re still a game above .500
19. (18) Marlins 3-6 – The Marlins slide continues. They’ve now dropped 5 straight after this week’s loss to Baltimore.
20. (19) Rangers 3-6 – The Rangers lost this week but got a big win when they added several top prospects.
21. (20) Braves 3-6 – A loss to the Giants doesn’t really do much for the Braves rankings. They are who we thought they were.
22. (22) Mets 3-6 – I can’t help but wonder where this team would be at if the GM was willing to go out and add a few pieces to the rotation.
23. (23) Brewers 2-7 – The Brewers lost as expected. Someone needs to slide into Tim’s DM’s to make some tradezzz.
If I Could Rank All Of These Teams Last I Would Tier
24. (24) Royals 3-6 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would.
25. (25) Twins 0-9 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
26. (26) Athletics 1-8 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
27. (27) Red Sox 1-8 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
28. (28) Pirates 0-9 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
29. (29) Yankees 0-9 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
30. (30) Phillies 0-9 – If I could rank all of these teams last, I would
