So, there's been a lot of discussion about how the MiLB system works lately and I think there's a good reason for that. The system is pretty confusing and teams try to hoard as many players as possible any time players hit the market.
MLB's Minor League draft is 50 rounds a year, so it's impossible to conduct a similar draft in a Dynasty league. On the other hand, allowing undrafted players into FA has created a huge clutter of players - 90% of whom will never make it to the MLB. However, that's not even the biggest problem. The biggest problem is that only a handful of teams have signed these FAs and many teams miss out because they don't check the league on a daily basis or don't have time to research every new player that hits FA which seems to happen once a week.
For these reasons, I propose we eliminate MiLB FA and roll players who are not drafted into future drafts. Since our new system is searchable, finding out if a player has been drafted will be easy and teams will be able to pick players from any draft. If a player has never had an MLB at-bad or has never piched in the MLB, he is eligible to be drafted (except international FAs).
One question that comes up is how we deal with MiLB cuts. One option (roll them into the next draft). Another option, is to only allow players who have been cut into the MiLB FA pool.
Of course, we could keep the system as is, but I feel like it would be really unhealthy as we already have a system where some teams have 70 prospects and others 10 or less and things will become even worse unless we think of a better system than FA. Less active teams wont get as quality spects because they don't research, but at least they'll get something.
