Yankees - Angels Trade
NYY GET: RP Chris Perez CLE 2.2M NYY GET: OF Jackie Bradley Jr. BOS 300k NYY GET: 4th, 5th , and 6th round picks in the next draft LAA GET: A. Meyer NYY 300k LAA GET: Jesus Montero NYY 300k
I was in need of Pitchers and I really liked Chris Perez. For me the draft round picks should help me get younger and better players in the future. We were trading from positions of strength for positions of need.
I accept this trade

I confirm.....I highly value my draft picks, and hate to lose the 36 saves....but as Robert said....we're each trading from positions of depth for positions of weakness.

How does a package centered around Chriz Perez get you one of the top prospects in baseball?

How does a package centered around Chriz Perez get you one of the top prospects in baseball? Perez is a 26 year old closer with almost no competition for his job. He picked up 36 saves last season in what was considered a down year. Had his K rate not been down early in the season he would've ranked even higher at seasons end. Although Montero is highly ranked, his future position is still up in the air. Gary Sanchez is the true "catcher of the future" in NY. I just hope that Montero can get enough starts @ catcher to qualify over the next couple seasons until Sanchez arrives. Otherwise I'll be trading Perez+ for my DH of the future.

derrick is absolutely right. And the Yankees will inevitably trade Montero elsewhere and keep Sanchez. Montero is a decent catcher, but with Russel Martin still playing well, Montero is blocked, so the Yankees will trade him somewhere for pitching. Every smart baseball man knows that. Perez is a solid closer who did well last year and is worth a solid prospect, not to mention he's giving up jackie bradley, who is a solid spect (that WILL get traded out of Boston if he does well, so don't say he'll be blocked....), and then 3 picks. Worth it.

Are you kidding me?? There were 3 other relievers in the Indian's pen who pitched better than Perez. He wasn't even the best Perez in the bullpen.
Not to mention about 1/3 of closers lose their job each season. Is that really worth a top spect?

This is a points league, Perez scored 328.4pts last season. I assume the "best Perez" that your speaking of is Rafael Perez who scored 197.4pts. I felt this was thoroughly explained....two strong teams each looking to trade a strength, to fill a weakness.

You said he had no competition. He surely does... because statistically he wasn't very good last year and several other CLE RPs performed quite well. Every year, 1/3 of closers lose their jobs and Perez is one of the ones likely to next year. Now, I'm not saying he's worthless... but he's not worth Montero and the low picks you're giving up.

C.Perez is a 26 year old proven commodity. That's what Robert wanted..... he inquired about him specifically. He converted 36 of 40 save chances last season, not to mention he's under team control for at least the next 3 seasons. Only 10 relievers had more saves then him last year, and of those 10, only two were younger. Once again, this trade is neither unfair, nor does it create an unfair advantage for either owner. Both teams involved are trading from positions of strength, for positions of need.

I'd like to point out that I never vetoed. I understand that logic here, I just think that Yankees is a bad GM because you don't trade top prospects for bullpen arms... ever!

I understand Slava's argument, but it's depth for need in both cases.

I reluctantly approve, Angels, i don't really get why you're arguing the case against yourself though.. I'm pretty sure you're aware that you're getting a pretty nice deal. And he throws in Meyer, a 1st round pick this year, while he gets a 2nd round comp pick and 3 later rounders.

Ya Alex, Angels wins, but not veto worthy. And if Yankeez has no place to even play Montero, he's smart to go get a guy who fills a need in return.

Approve. Good arguments on both sides of the deal. I'll take the proven ML guy every time but you gotta love Montero's upside. It's all about risk/reward. Only time will tell.
