Base Knock 2015 Mid-Season Farm Rankings
Love them or hate them. Looking at them as worth more than your player who's averaging 40 points a week or trading them for a guy getting you 2 points a game. There's no denying prospects have value. They're the future of teams. Where all of the stars start. Where all of those victories come from. The farm systems.
While it feels like opening day just happened, in actuality, the league is nearing the mid-season point. Teams are going to have to decide to buy or sell. "Is it our year?" or "Maybe I should just trade a few guys are gear up for next year" are both thoughts that could be going through your head in the coming weeks. Consequently, to help you out, I've created a list of the top farm systems in our league at this point. I have a spreadsheet to keep track of the way I've formulated this list, so it will be updated frequently and possibly lead to more posts such as this.
Grades were determined based on prospects rated by most prospect lists towards the top of their respective team's rankings. Grades are determined based on two categories, depth and talent (number of prospects on ranking lists and prospect positioning on the lists). Not all prospects were considered as a result of this, so the rankings may be slightly skewed. However, it is considerably accurate considering most of the prospects that make an impact are ranked on lists, and most prospects on teams were looked at. I'd encourage you not to look at something like a "C" as you would in an education setting and the negative connotations that brings. Instead, look at a C as a towards the middle grading of the farm systems, as farm fit a different category of scoring based on the depth and talent in their farm. Getting the same grade does not mean farm systems were equal: rather that each team fell in the same farm ranking point threshold to deserve the letter grade. The 1-30 rankings matter. Sites used: MLB.com, minorleagueball.com, a few fantasy baseball magazines.
Here we go!
1. San Francisco Giants: A+
2. Colorado Rockies: A
