Hey guys, just wanted to see what kind of options there are for Jose Fernandez. Don't have a rule that governs player death, so I didn't know if it could just be written off or if it is to be treated as a buyout/retirement type of thing.

Do don't know what the rules are but I wouldn't have a problem as if it were an expired contract or just a forgiven contract and you gain the money back- feel bad talking about this but I guess it needs to be addressed

Per the rules right now, you would have to release him and pay half of the 2017 salary for half of the season. But being this is a pretty tragic event, I think we can all agree that you cutting him now and just paying for a week his 2016 salary for half would work, but you would've done that if you'd known immediately following the accident. Does that work for everyone?

Chris (Former Cardinals GM) Go ahead and go for the one year (2016) buyout Chris! Just post it in the releases section with a note and I'll process it.
