Having taken ownership of the A's this past off-season, it became apparent that the minor league system cupboards were thin - whether due to trades of prospects for then current needs, lack of attention, or a combination. One focus of new ownership is a longer term outlook based in part on developing the minor league system through the drafts and retaining prospects except where an appropriate situation may arise. It may take some time before the farm system can start to contribute to the MLB level on a consistent basis, but that is a goal.
