Nationals send: Luis Avilan (1 year .3 million) Stephen Strasburg (35 million in 2018/19/20/21/22...will cover 75%, 26.25 million in 2018 and 75%, 26.25 million in 2019)
Mets send: 2018 1st NYM 2018 3rd NYM 2018 5th NYM P Kolby Allard (ATL) .3 million 2B Brandon Lowe (TB) .3 million OF Blake Perkins (WSH) .3 million P Jake Cosart (BOS) .3 million
We have removed Kyle Freeland who would have provided 100-150 points less production than Strasburg at a fraction of the cost. Also removed Matuella who is a nice spec (45 FV range) and swapped the 2nd with a 3rd round pick which loses a bit of value. Lastly, I covered an additional 25% in 2019 giving him an additional 9 million to spend in free agency.

I’m well aware of how leagues handle new owners on first time trades. I’m still adjusting to how this league values prospects and picks, compared to the league I’ve been in. (FFS)
I accept for the same reasons as before. I want Kluber and Strasburg heading my rotation. Looking to win the NL East.

No harm on the first try of the trade. I don't think it was as off as some did. The removal of Freeland makes this a true long-term/short-term swap for me. I think the Mets greatly improve their rotation while hanging onto their key young pieces that will have an impact this season. Solid trade. While Strasburg is expensive, he's definitely one of the more productive pitchers in baseball. The cash is covered when the Mets will likely be trying to compete, so it won't hurt to pay for it down the road during a rebuild.
For the Nationals, I think they got more back than they paid for Strasburg in terms of long-term value, which is a plus. I think Tim is going to do a fantastic job of rebuilding a pretty much non-existent farm system. This move gives him a great young pitching prospect with some depth guys, along with a few draft picks to start filling out his system.
Approve (1-0).

Allow. Big steps by the Nationals to gear up for a rebuild, Allard and 1.11 is a nice get, the other pieces adds much needed depth. While I don't think Strasburg's contract is anything I would be interested in, I see the Mets window of opportunity is right now, they have cap space to make moves throughout the season and they have a few big contracts on the books. Losing the picks is going to hurt, but not as bad as not trying hurts.
