Hello friends,
I think we should move to Fantrax for the 2020 season. They support 30-team leagues among other fun features. This move would provide us with many benefits, including but not limited to:
1. Playing interleague matchups as part of our regular season schedule (I have an idea on how to structure this, too!)
2. Balanced playoff chances because the leagues are balanced - no longer will AL teams have a slight advantage over NL teams when it comes to making the playoffs (we would move one NL team to the AL to get rid of the current imbalance: 42.8% of AL teams make the playoffs while only 37.5% of NL teams make it)
3. Full context of league standings without making Alex add them up every Sunday night/Monday morning or having to check another ESPN league
4. No creating a separate league for the playoffs
5. Having our entire rosters (including minor leaguers!) accessible at all times; no more forgetting to add/drop guys when you need them later in the week as well as a backup for the Google Docs spreadsheet in case something slips through the cracks
6. Ability to set it so players with PPD games can be moved out of the lineup (a minor annoyance, but not insignificant!)
7. Maybe this is a niche issue, but every time I go onto the ESPN site my computer slows down and Safari warns me that the page is using too much memory so it force-refreshes the page (I have a 2017 MacBook Pro so not some shitty old laptop that would have lots of issues) - Fantrax always runs smoothly
There are, as always, drawbacks. I'll let the opposed speak to them more, but these are what I can think of for now:
1. No mobile app for iOS, shitty mobile app for Android - you'd have to use the website on mobile which is optimized for mobile but not a purely mobile site like ProBoards has, for example
2. There is a cost associated with Fantrax, however it is small. The total fee for one season is $80.00, which averages out to $2.67 per team. Because I am so passionate about this coming to pass, I'd volunteer to pick up the tab of anyone who could not/does not want to pay for the first year
I am passionate about this because I think it will create a better league for all of us. When a league I was in moved to Fantrax for the first time, I was one of the biggest resistors. But, I've since done a full 180 and think Fantrax is the best site for what we're doing that is out there. As a Commish of my own league, I cannot underscore how much I appreciate the robust features the site provides. It has saved me so much time, and I don't want to speak for Alex in terms of how personally beneficial he'd find it, but I know it would at the least save time on a few very manual tasks.
