Good evening gents,
I was discussing with Alex about when 2022 draft picks will be available. We have historically made them available as soon as the amateur draft started in July, roughly two weeks before the league trade deadline. However, with us pushing the amateur draft back until after the season concludes, those picks will not become available until then.
I think having those draft picks available in July will make for a lot more league activity at the trade deadline and will also keep the continuity of having those picks as trade ammo for contending teams. This years Base Knock trade deadline will be Midnight on August 1st. If we made 2022 amateur draft picks available on July 18 (around the same date they have historically become available), that'd give owners a few weeks to make some deals.

There's 4 vetoes on this, can someone give an explanation as to why? I'm curious

More votes! Let's get to 2/3 of the league participation!

I’m happy with leaving stuff the way it is so I’ll vote no on it.

One thing that I don't think was thought about, if we make them available to trade July 18th, what about this years picks? Can we still trade them during these 2 weeks? I can see both ways: If we say yes, then you can trade next years picks to obtain picks for this year, which may be an interesting new dynamic. Or we lock the current years picks July 18th, and keep things as always.

I assume (as do most owners, I imagine) that those picks are available to trade up until the trade deadline.

We should just do it like we did in 2020 and not allow trading of any type until next year when we have a real season. I'm with Phil.

Marlins GM (Travis) this is a good point you bring up. We never have more than one season's worth of draft picks available at a given time. If we allow an extra season's worth of draft picks to open up early... we should close the current one. That's my opinion.

We will re-evaluate in the off-season how to handle this going forward.
