I have to veto here. In this trade Texas pays $28M over 2 years and gives up 2 draft picks and a prospect and gets almost nothing in return. Maeda is out for all of next year and then Texas pays $14M for a then, 35 year old pitcher coming off of TJ surgery in 2023.
Conversely, Colorado dumps $14M in salary in 2022 on Texas, while receiving 2 draft picks and a prospect while giving up nothing.
It’s amazing that this was agreed to. If I’m eating $14M in salary, I would not be giving up assets for the privilege, I would be expecting something for my money.

I didn’t realize Maeda was as old as he is. Seems like there is a chance Maeda opts to head over to Japan for his last few seasons and then Ahmed would get nothing out of the Maeda deal other than losing 2 picks and a prospect. IF Ahmed picks up the option on Maeda he will have eaten 28 million in cap, given up 2 draft picks and a prospect for 1 season of a 35 year old pitcher coming off major surgery. baseknock.proboards.com/thread/9986/orioles-dodgersA little bit different parameters here but a comparable trade. 3rd and 5th round picks and a spec for a healthy pitcher that even cost less than Maeda. I am switching my vote to a veto. I feel like there’s less than a 1% chance of this trade working out at all for Ahmed. |
