In MLB, players will often re-sign with their hometown team for a slight discount due their longevity with a team. We could introduce a fun twist like this into BKDB to replicate this aspect of BKDB. An example of how this would work would look like this:
HOMETOWN CONTRACT POINTS MULTIPLIER
- 1 year: Multiply Annual Value by 1.1x - 2 years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.2x - 3 years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.3x - 4+ years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.4x
Our current values for regular free agents without a discount are:
- 1 year: Multiply Annual Value by 1.0x - 2 years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.1x - 3 years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.2x - 4 years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.3x - 5 years: Multiply Annual Value by 1.4x
Teams could unlock this if they kept a player throughout his entire time of team control. It would start if that player ended his first year on a team and ended his last year of arbitration with the same team. The team would maintain the hometown discount so long as they had that player. This would have to be ironed out exactly how it's calculated. Perhaps the amount of years needed to keep a player would be less... more? Different years?
Open to thoughts!

Eh, It's a wrinkle. We have franchise tags already in place.

Agreed with Kyle. We have franchise that we just revamped. Maybe this is something to revisit in the future. Plus I wouldn't want Orioles GM (Michael) to feel left out when he can never give a guy a hometown discount.

Not seeing any interest in this. Thanks for the couple thoughts, will take the silence as a no for now.
