Consistently, we have had issues with the top seed in the playoffs not getting the easiest path to the World Series, whereas the second seed regularly plays less thought of teams. The #4/#5 seed almost always contains better teams than the #3/#6 matchup.
With the amount of years of history we've had looking at this, I would propose the following change:
The #1 plays the winner of the #3/#6 game while the #2 seed plays the winner of the #4/#5 game in the ALDS/NLDS.
Thoughts?

Why not just reseed? #1 would play the lowest seed, #2 would play the other team that won.
So if the #5 and #6 seeds won their matchups, #1 seed would play #6 seed and #2 would play #5.

CAN THE FIRST TIE BREAKER BE HEAD TO HEAD RECORD AND SECOND POINTS?! Post that as a new suggestion. I'm open to it. It'd be add more fun to the head to head matchups between playoff hopefuls.

Why not just reseed? #1 would play the lowest seed, #2 would play the other team that won. So if the #5 and #6 seeds won their matchups, #1 seed would play #6 seed and #2 would play #5. The issue is really the top three seeds being division winners... not the need to re-seed. We could change it so that the division winners are only guaranteed playoff spots... not one of the top three seeds?

Nationals GM (Tim) What I'm saying is that usually the best team is the #4 seed... so shouldn't the #1 seed be able to avoid that team?

2021 #3 Seed - Brewers 16-3, #4 Seed - Rockies 14-5 2019 #3 Seed - Blue Jays 14-5, #4 Seed - Angels 13-6 2018 #3 Seed - Tampa Bay 15-4, #4 Seed - Toronto - 13-6 2018 #3 Seed - Miami 15-4, #4 Seed - Chicago 15-4 2017 #3 Seed - Miami 15-4, #4 Seed - San Francisco 15-4
Seems pretty even to me over the last couple years.

Full results
2021 #3 MIL (6,852.3 pts)/#4 COL (6,709.9 pts) +150 pt difference #3 DET (5,337.7 pts)#4 LAA (6,918.1 pts) -1,600 pt difference
2019 #3 MIL (6,540.8 pts)/#4 PIT (5,850.8 pts) +700 pt difference #3 TOR (6,622.8 pts)/#4 LAA (6,127.6 pts) +500 pt difference
2018 #3 CHC (6,675.9 pts)/#4 MIA (6,354.9 pts) + 300 pts (however... COL was the #5 seed that year and had the most points scored in the league) #3 TBR (5,997.6 pts/#4 TOR (5,667.4 pts) +300 pts difference
I suppose it's not as often as I had thought.
I would be in favor of re-seeding after the Wild Card round after thinking about it.

My biggest issue with this has always been the worst division winner gets to play the worst wild card and then the 2nd place division winner where as the top seed has to play the winner of the best two wild cards which could certainly be better than both the 3 AND the 6. I proposed a couple of years ago to seed on record 1st, then if they are division winner, but it was not passed at that time. baseknock.proboards.com/thread/8357/playoff-seeding

Anyone want to re-propose something better or are we just good with what we have right now?
