Guardians trade Nick Castellanos 1 Year, 20.7 million (15.5 coverage) Reynaldo Lopez A Arb Year 7 of 7, 5.9 million (4.4 mil coverage)
Nationals trade Simeon Woods Richardson (spec) Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (spec) Washington 12th
Guardians accept.
Good young pitching is hard to find and to me this is essentially the last piece of the Blake Snell trade from earlier this year. Both players are in the last years of their deals for me, and wouldn’t be retained past this year, but it nets me two young starters who I’m excited about. Thanks for the easy dealing as always, Tim!

The market isn’t great for OF this year and I have a need. I’m hoping the Braves didn’t give Lopez $26 million to be a reliever. If he starts, this trade will be a big win for me.

Thomas. Help me understand this one more. Seems like you’re getting two just okay prospects for a stud hitter fully covered and swing guy fully covered who just got paid to have some good role in the majors. Castellanos is probably getting a comp pick too after this deal… altogether why I’m trying to see why you’d make this move.

I’ll just say I’m at a veto unless I am convinced by something I’m not seeing from Thomas. Have you even shopped Castellanos around?

From my perspective, Woods Richardson is a year removed from a phenomenal MiLB season. He threw more innings last year than he has ever and I like his mechanics. Rodriguez-Cruz has a frame I like and has put together two nice MiLB seasons before he got fatigued last year. They’re both young and look to me like they’re going to develop into nice starters.
If y’all don’t think it’s anywhere near enough, feel free to veto. I won’t be offended.

Got it. I think you can definitely like those types of fringe prospects and have them included in trades. But I can’t approve a trade where at their current value, they’re the main pieces for fully cap covered good players.
I’m sticking with my veto. Sorry Tim and Thomas.

Veto. I would be okay with this deal if there wasn’t cap coverage. TINSTAAPP - especially when they have garbage stats.

All good. I know y’all are looking out for competitive balance in the league. I didn’t view Woods Richardson as a finge guy, but interesting that he’s viewed that way now.

Fast ball velocity is ~91 mph and he had 5 BB per 9 last year.

Veto, Same as everyone else. Castellanos is a stud hitter, 51st this year in pts among hitters. 2 of the last 3 years 500 plus pts, which I think makes more sense than his down year in 2022 at 360pts. Need more.
