The Diamondbacks agree to trade:
2025 ARI 5th Round Pick
Collin McHugh, RP 2023: 1M
To the Royals in exchange for:
Jose Abreu, 1B 2024: 20.5M
15.3M in Cap Coverage
This gives me batting depth that I’m needing. Appreciate the quick talks as always Bill!

Veto. 15.3 mil cap coverage and a 400+ point player for a 5th is not cutting it.

I thought that deal was veto able as well. I didn’t see it in time and didn’t vote.

This trade involves an extra 7 million in cap coverage. We’ve established cap coverage carries value in this league. Does the value of picks in the 5th round and 10th round differ enough to cover the 7 million in cap coverage between our deals ?

I guess it’s the amount of cap covered that makes me uneasy.

Well it's a 1 year deal, FA is over, and Bill is rebuilding. So the cap in this situation is somewhat moot. Not to mention he's gaining cap by moving off the Abreu contract just like you got with moving off Baez. This isn't a longterm cap coverage where it's beyond just this year.

Approve. Don't think this is too egregious for a guy who is 37 and had well below a league average year offensively last season.

Talked it out with Kyle. Enough to convince me to change my vote to approve. However, I’ll still say cap coverage after free agency has ended still has value because without it, trades likely wouldn’t happen as often during the season. So that particular argument is not a moot point.

Approve. What exactly are we doing here with vetoing this?
Abreu got this wild overpay of a contract because of how free agency unfolded and not spending the fake money would be worse than overpaying basically any player. So using the amount of cap coverage as an excuse for a veto is beyond silly
If you wanna say Abreu the player is worth more than a 5th, I won't disagree with you, but I will challenge you by saying - since when does "oh man, I wouldn't do this trade" equal a veto? This trade does not materially harm the Royals franchise or materially alter the balance of the league in favor of the Diamondbacks franchise
Let people run their damn teams

I agree with Max. There’s no evidence of collusion here and the trade isn’t so lopsided that it warrants a veto in my book. Also, citing the Baez trade seals it for me. That trade was approved so should this one.
Approve.

Baez is trash, doesn't seal anything for me. I'd rather not have a SS than have Baez.
