I was looking to flip one of my 3B to upgrade another spot on the roster, and Padres were looking for young cornerstone to build around, so we matched up on something around Devers/Alonso. I was also in market for an SP, so we opted to kill two birds with one trade.

Getting Devers as a piece I can plop down in the hot corner.
Jameson will be back late this year or to start 2025 as an arm I can count on. Hodge is nearing the majors and I take a shot on Hubbart; plus I get a 4th rounder next year.

Losing Alonso isn't great, but theres plans in the works. Kremer is a casualty of war.

This is a terrible package deal for San Diego. But I don’t think we want to veto as a league in the same way anymore. The rich get richer in all these deals with San Diego. Approve.

To expand further. Alonso is cost controlled for 3 seasons whereas Devers is not and even if Max plans to tag him, that’s a boatload of money when he could have just kept Alonso at 1/3rd the cost for an extra 2 seasons. Alonso scored more points than Devers too. If that matters. Kremer is a starter on a great ballclub and comes with 4 cost controlled seasons. The specs are nothing in this deal.

I'm changing mine to a veto as well, sorry.

I feel that the best team in the league just became more unstoppable without dealing any significant future asset. Two relief prospects and a Tommy John surgery haver in Jameson who definitely won't be back until mid 2025.
