Tigers Acquire: RHP Rafael Dolis (400k) RHP Luke Jackson (300k) OF Aaron Shipman (300k) RHP Lucas Giolito (300k) RHP Nestor Molina (300k)
A's Acquire: RHP Jose Valverde (500k)(500k)(500k) 2B Omar Infante (5M)
I give a lot but I get back a solid BP arm and a decent option at 2B, after seeing I missed out on Ellis, 30 seconds later I pulled the trigger on Infante.
The A's have added Jose Valverde, Jason Motte, Nick Swisher, and Omar Infante over the past 24 hours, and could get Chris Carpenter if the right cards fall.

Easy accept for me here. In my second trade of a rebuilding effort, I get rid of Valverde who won't close this year, and he's on a downturn in his career with bad mechanics. I don't expect his career to continue much longer. There is absolutely 0 chance Infante repeats his success from last year, and with a one year deal, it made all the sense in the world to trade him with Pedroia firmly entrenched as my 2B. I'm ecstatic with the prospects I receive here. Giolito is big time risk/reward, but with all I am giving up, the potential reward is for sure worth it. Dolis projects as a future bullpen arm, he did have a brief stint as the Cubs closer last year, and he could be there long term solution there. Molina is the top prospect in the White Sox organization, and has a bright future as well. Shipman and Jackson are almost throw ins, but they both have produced in the minors and could make the majors at some point. Accept!

Approve, but how do you figure Valverde won't close this year?

I hate to do this, but I veto and its not really close. I wouldn't call Danks a building block to your SP staff when he's gotten worse every year and has a one year deal. Callaspo is mediocre at best. You're giving up the number 4 pick here!! You should use this to rebuild, not get crappy players who won't even help you gain probably one win this year. You can do better Dodgers. VETO (0-1) Tigers, how can you say this about the LA trade and still defend your own trade? You said yourself Valverde is not going to be a closer, and is at the downturn of his career, and Infante won't be very valuable. You pulled Giolito in this trade, who just so happened to be the 4th pick in this years draft. Why should you be allowed to trade off guys that you don't think will be good this year for prospects, but LA can't?

Valverde could still sign to close elsewhere. There's no 100% here - basically A's are hoping he will and Tigers betting he won't. But the deal itself is fine.

Giolito was the actual 16th pick in the draft, Cubs.
