GM's were selected based on the moves they made that improved them from year to year. Consequently, teams that were already powerhouses in the previous year were not considered above teams that came from the bottom to the top.
The 2013 American League GM of the Year:
Chris Dionne, Boston Red Sox
Chris came in and completely changed the direction of the Red Sox organization in his first as the GM. He brought in elite talent such as Robinson Cano and Ian Kennedy and made the Red Sox into one of the premier teams in the American League, finishing only behind the 2012 Champion Angels and record-breaking 18-1 Rangers. Unfortunately, New England's team couldn't get the job done in the ALCS against Texas, but it was still an impressive run following an 8-11 season. Although his farm system is very thin, Chris still has a relatively young core in the majors that should be able to compete for years now after the work he's done. Congratulations to Chris!
The 2013 National League GM of the Year:
Jared Thatcher, Atlanta Braves
What a turn around for one of the worst organization's in Base Knock Dynasty Baseball the year before. Jared has slowly assembled a talented young group of players that showed its potential last season in a five-win improvement and an 11-8 record. Although there aren't any superstar names to choose from, Pat Corbin is a name that jumps out from the rotation following a terrific season at the top of the Atlanta rotation. The Braves also have one of the deepest minor league systems in the entire league and have always drafted and traded well with their farm talent. With a possible decline of the dynasty that was Philadelphia, perhaps Atlanta will become the team to beat in the NL East in the 2014 season. Congratulations to Jared!
