Scouting grades out of 80.
.) Byron Buxton, OF, Grade A: Borderline A-. Lost season due to injuries although scouting reports are still extremely positive. Let’s see if he can avoid the doctors. ETA: 2016 Hit: 70 | Power: 60 | Run: 80 | Arm: 70 | Field: 70 | Overall: 70
.) Archie Bradley, RHP, Grade B+/Borderline A-. Age 22, posted 4.45 ERA with 75/49 K/BB in 83 innings between Double-A, Triple-A, and one rehab outing in rookie ball. Hampered by elbow problems early, both command and stuff suffered as a result. Still looks impressive at his best with blistering fastball, big-breaking curve, change-up and a new cutter/slider. Obviously a disappointing season but still has very high upside. Fastball: 70 | Curveball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 60
.) Tyler Glasnow, RHP, Grade A/Borderline A-: Age 21,1.74 ERA with 157/57 K/BB in 124 innings in High-A, just 74 hits. Ridiculously good K/IP and H/IP marks stand out and reflect quality of upper-90s fastball and curve. Change-up improving, overall command still needs tightening but the stuff is outstanding. Number one starter upside if the command is there. Fastball: 75 | Curveball: 60 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 60
.) Austin Meadows, OF, Grade B+: Age 19, hit .322/.388/.486 in 146 at-bats in Low-A, fighting injuries the first part of the season. Strong on-base skills, should hit for average with at least moderate power, needs more defensive polish but has the tools for center. Just needs a healthy year. Hit: 60 | Power: 55 | Run: 60 | Arm: 40 | Field: 60 | Overall: 55
.) D.J. Peterson, 1B-3B, Grade B+: Age 23, 2013 first-rounder, hit .297/.360/.552 with 31 doubles, 31 homers, 45 walks, 116 strikeouts in 495 at-bats between High-A and Double-A. Draws praise for huge power, but mixed opinions on pure hitting skills. Not very good defensively at third base and likely ends up at first in the long run. Could get a big league trial sometime in 2015 and certainly in 2016. Hit: 55 | Power: 60 | Run: 40 | Arm: 60 | Field: 40 | Overall: 55
.) Andrew Heaney, LHP, Grade B+/Borderline A-: Age 23, acquired from Marlins, posted 3.28 ERA with 143/36 K/BB in 137 innings in high minors last year, 5.83 ERA with 20/7 K/BB in 29 inning in majors with Miami. Nothing left to prove on the farm, should earn rotation spot, low-90s fastball with slider, change-up, good feel, strong performance record, should be a fine number three starter, one of the "safer" pitching prospects around as if there is such a thing. Fastball: 55 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 60 | Overall: 60
.) Nick Kingham, RHP, Grade B-: Age 23, posted 3.04 ERA with 54/25 K/BB in 71 innings in Double-A then 3.58 ERA with 65/27 K/BB in 88 innings in Triple-A. Steady, solid, throws strikes with low-90s fastball, reasonable curve and change. Nothing spectacular but nothing bad, either. Classic fourth starter inning-eater, maybe a third if everything maxes out. Fastball: 60 | Curve: 50 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 60 | Overall: 55
.) Lucas Sims, RHP, Grade B: Age 20, struggled in first half in High-A but finished strong, 4.19 ERA with 107/57 K/BB in 157 innings, 146 hits. Still projects as rotation workhorse with fastball up to mid-90s, secondaries still under development but promising. Fastball: 65 | Curveball: 60 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 50 | Overall: 55
.) Forrest Wall, 2B, Grade B-: Age 19, hit .318/.416/.490 with 18 steals, 27 walks, 32 strikeouts in 157 at-bats in the Pioneer League for Grand Junction. High school shoulder injury limited him to second base, pure hitting skills well-respected. Could develop into something like Todd Walker or Adam Kennedy or Howie Kendrick, good hitters for average with touches of power. Hit: 60 | Power: 45 | Run: 70 | Arm: 35 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50
.) Trey Ball, LHP, Grade C+: Age 20, first round pick in 2013, posted 4.68 ERA with 68/39 K/BB in 100 innings in Low-A. Very projectable, athletic, 6-6, 185 body, could become a number three starter if he can refine curveball and change-up. Low strikeout rate is a negative. Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 55 | Changeup: 55 | Control: 45 | Overall: 50
