The Rockies and Blue Jays have agreed upon a trade:
The Rockies send: 2B, Jose Pereza (300k) P, Jeff Hoffman (300k) P, Michael Feliz (300k) COL 4th COL 6th
The Blue Jays send: 1B, Jose Abreu (39m 75% covered '16-'18) TOR 3rd
The Rockies agree. I want to compete, but probably not in the way of going all in this season. Abreu is the perfect player to acquire. He's on a long deal so he'll still be a valuable part of my team by the time the rest of my prospects are ready to produce at a high level. This took a lot of back and forth, so I appreciate the patience by Adam in hammering out this deal.

75% Covered for 1 year or all years under contract? How many years is he under contract? I believe it's 3 but you should post it so there's no confusion.

The Blue Jays accept the terms. The Blue Jays signed Jose Abreu with the idea of flipping him to add depth to our farm and to add pick. We have accomplished both in this deal and acquiring a top 25 a top 50 a prospect with the chance of being in a starting rotation then a 4th and 6th round pick for a monster player like Mr. Abreu, I think is a trade that will benefit the Blue Jays and help bolster the team for many years to come. This took a while but we got it done. Nice job Alex best of luck down the way. (maybe you guys should update those farm system rankings lol)

Veto
Not enough for such a good player on a really good contract. The Jays are going to be eating 29.25M for each of the next 3 years in this deal. That's a ton of dead money each year for them. On top of that they are giving the Rockies the highest pick in the trade. I like the 3 specs but they don't match a 3rd round pick, Abreu at 9.75M per year with 29.25M compensated each year. This isn't remotely close in my opinion. More value needs to be going the Blue Jays way. Sorry guys.

Veto.
I can't see it adding up for two reasons.
The 3rd rounder (shaping up to be a high pick) going to the Rockies is a partial offset to the specs.
The 3rd year of nearly $30M reimbursement (18% of total cap)
Note - I'm reading Alex's update to mean 75% reimbursement in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Veto I agree with the above thread but I could approve if there was a 50% salary coverage.

Veto
Favors the Rockies 85-15. 19.5% ($29.25M) of future cap is the big reason for my veto, with the draft picks being exchanged as an added plus for the Rockies. For Blue Jays side, Abreu was signed with the intention of making a deal like this. For the Rockies side, I applaud the selling high of the prospects while they still have value, it's really one of the best case scenarios you can hope for when dealing prospects. Blue Jays would have limited (25%) to no salary commitment beyond this season, to get me to 70-30 Rockies (Still not a trade I would want to make, but I would vote to allow).
My view of the players involved; Abreu is the best player in this deal, has MVP potential. Pereza is being fitted as utility player during this spring training, but he is very talented and could find a spot for himself. Feliz, profiles as a talented back end RP or spot starter with potential to find better command. Hoffman, has the hype and talent of a top prospect as well Pereza and Feliz, Hoffman's value is slightly limited by the organization he plays for, but has the chance to be one of the top arms in baseball.

Abreu at 9.75m should cost a lot more when 39m is his base salary. This is a deal I feel Alex would have thrown a veto if he was voting on it. Veto

I will have to vote to veto as well- If Toronto were only paying on Abreu Salary this season, I think it would be fair, but all years, doesn't seem to add up. In addition, Toronto is down to only 2 or 3 active players for this season, prospects and picks are great; but I feel like you need to be able to field a team that will if nothing else be fair to the other owners, instead of an empty roster.
