The Orioles and Cubs have struck up a blockbuster deal!

Orioles receive:

3B Maikel Franco (3 of 7) $800k
SS Andrelton Simmons (B - 6 of 7) 17: $5.1M, 18: $5.8M
OF Lonnie Chisenhall (A - 7 of 7) 17: $6.3M

Cubs receive:

3B Manny Machado (6 of 7) 17: $12.5M


With my limited budget this offseason, dealing Machado to spread the talent around was an unfortunately necessary move. But, I add a cheaper, more controllable replacement, and fill holes at shortstop and outfield as well. With Bryce Harper's contract expiring the same year as Machado's, it was also unlikely I'd be able to keep both, so moving one for a player with a different contract time table (Franco) helped me with my long-term planning.

Cubs deal from a position of strength to add a top-5 position player talent.

The Cubs confirm. We believe that we are in a win this year mode with the talent on this roster and Machado only makes my chances stronger. Simmons wouldn't play anyways and I had other players to replace Chisenhall that it won't be a drop off. It's hard losing a guy like Franco but to get Machado was worth it.
