Orioles receive:
RP Mark Melancon (17: $9M)
Indians receive:
BAL 3rd Round Pick BAL 4th Round Pick SS/3B Eduardo Escobar (6 of 7 A - 17: $3.8M) RP Dan Jennings (17-19: $1.2M) P Paul Clemens (3 of 7 - 17: $800k)
As the Indians look to retool and build out their roster depth/prospect depth, they gain two mid-tier prospects, as well as a trio of players that will be good for at least 100 points in 2017, two of whom are controllable for at least three seasons. The trio is also projected to outscore Melancon (who is on an expiring contract) 426.7-378.5, promising to make the Indians more competitive in the short-term as well, while ensuring they recoup plenty of long-term value for a rental reliever.
The Orioles add another closer to their bullpen mix after dealing David Robertson away in a previous trade earlier in the winter. While the lost of three controllable players hurts, they're ready to make some noise in 2017 after being a fringe team for so many years.

Indians approve.
It's unfortunate to lose a great closer in Melancon, but in a rebuild the picks and long term players help to soften the blow. I also get a little more financial freedom by trading Melancon's $9M salary.
Thanks for the easy negotiations, Michael! Good luck this season!
