I was looking for a bat, due to some injuries.
From my POV this was a balance of upside and risk on both sides.
Santana has a job to start and great power, but is not a lock to keep an OF role - he has to tame contact issues (stikeouts), and has several OF specs and other players who'll take his playing time if he's injured or struggles.
Thompson struggled in his debut - like most pitching specs - but has an extra year of control, and should be in line to pick up more wins as the Phillies improve, perhaps as soon as this year.
