Phillies trade:

Jose Abreu (CHW) $39.00 $39.00 $39.00 (option) (50% salary coverage for 2017 & 2018)

Mets trade:

1st round pick (2nd overall)
Max Pentecost $.3

Phillies accept.

The rebuild continues. I'm stoked to be getting the 2nd overall pick in this year's draft. Along with that comes a catching prospect that I'm excited about as well. The value of both the 2nd overall pick and Pentecost is worth this season and next for Jose Abreu in my eyes.

Abreu's salary coverage is added solely because we don't have a solution in the on-going salary coverage talks currently discussed in the thread right now. Essentially it works out the same as if the money that I am getting with the Jays goes with Abreu to the Mets. Watch out, the Mets are turning into contenders! Nice dealing with you Mike.

Mets confirm. I'm looking to turn this roster around ASAP, and with so much cap space, I can easily afford to take on a big salary like Abreu's. I love what he brings to the table and while the 2nd pick has a lot of value, I can't afford to wait another 2-3 years for another spec to develop. Pentecost is a guy I have high hopes for. Definitely tough to give him up. Good working with you Zach.

Allow. It's nice to see the Mets making an effort to field a team, while the 2nd overall pick is a bit steep to take on a talent like Abreu with that contract, it was probably necessary to make the deal happen. I like this trade for the sake of the league and welcome more owners making an effort to field a competent team.
