FIRST YEAR PLAYER DRAFT
DRAFT DATE
The First Year Player Draft (FYPD, formerly the Amateur and International Drafts)) will be held every year following the completion of the international signing period in eraly February.
DRAFT DETAILS
The First Year Player Draft consists of all high school and college players that were recently drafted and signed in the MLB Amateur Draft, any unowned players in BKDB that are prospects by definition (never more than 130 AB or 50 IP, 10 GS, or 20 RA in a season), and any international free agents signed to an MLB team that are either under the age of 23 or have not played five or more seasons in a league recognized by Major League Baseball (the players who do not meet these criteria are available via International Free Agency).. A list of available players from the MLB Amateur Draft that can be drafted will be posted prior to the draft every year.
The FYPD is ordered inversely based on the amount 1. Wins the season prior and 2. Points Scored. The FYPD will last twelve rounds. Teams have 24 hours to make their selection, but are encouraged to make their pick as soon as possible.
COMPENSATION ROUNDS
We will have two compensation rounds during the First Year Player Draft for teams that lost players to Free Agency that off-season based on values calculated by our Extension Values system (see 4.2 Extensions, Restriction Tag). A team will only receive a compensation pick if their player is signed in free agency by another team prior to the start of the next season.
There are two types of Free Agent losses eligible for draft pick compensation: Type A and Type B. Type C Free Agents are not eligible for free agent compensation.
Free Agent Types will be determined using a weighted point system.
Compensation picks are allowed to be traded. The compensation round order will be determined by extension value of that player becoming a free agent.
DRAFT PICK TRADING
First Year Player Draft picks for a draft can be traded starting at the beginning of the previous FYPD. Teams may only trade draft picks one year in advance. There is no limit or minimum to the amount of picks a team can have or not have.
FYPD picks can be traded up to three days before the start of the draft they belong to.
The Official Rosters will keep track of all draft picks that are traded, but it's important for teams to also keep a copy of their draft picks in their team board to catch discrepancies.
DRAFT SELECTION
When drafting a player, a team must post the player's name, position, high school, college or country (or MiLB if the player is already in the minors), and MLB team.
If a team drafts a player that would've caused the team to go over the salary cap, that team will be warned and told to create cap space for the draft pick and the rest of their draft. If a team again exceeds the salary cap by a draft pick in the same draft, that draft pick is then forfeited and the player is then available to be drafted again.
If a team does not make their draft pick in the 24 hours slot, they will be auto-picked and have the next highest drafted player in the MLB Amateur Draft taken for them. These teams will remain on auto-pick for the duration of the draft unless they request to be taken off auto-pick.
Drafted players will receive a salary of $300k per season until they reach the majors.
Teams may not trade players they select until after the round in which they selected the player is over.
