Rockies trade:
OF Charlie Blackmon 18: $15.4M
Rockies need to shed cap, and they still add a top young closer to replace the departing Kimbrel/Jansen, a Top 100 prospect, a 1st round pick, a quality starting pitching prospect, and arguably the fastest man in the minor leagues (Quinn).
In turn, I add the highest scoring bat in baseball this past year. Considering the type of money that players get in free agency, the chances of me addressing all my needs on the open market were slim to none, and I see an opportunity to make some noise in the American League this year. Adding superstars often involves overpaying a bit, and I decided to do so in a calculated way here. Putting Blackmon in a lineup that already has Trea Turner, Greg Bird, Jeimer Candelario, and possibly JT Realmuto was too tough to pass up.
