NATIONALS TRADE: SS Aledmys Diaz 2.1/2.1 C Tomas Nido .3 (Minors) RP Michael Blazek 3 of 7 .8 WAS 1st round pick WAS 2nd round pick
PADRES TRADE: SS Dansby Swanson 3 of 7 .8 C/2B Austin Barnes 2 of 7 .8 P Lucas Sims 2 of 7 .8 C Miguel Montero 3.0 P Erasmo Ramirez 7 of 7 7.4
(Covering 4M of Erasmo Ramirez)
I accept this deal, while I am losing 2 guys I really like (Swanson, Barnes) I am getting back a guy who I think can fill in if i need him to (Nido) getting an arm I trust more in the pen that is cheaper, Diaz who just seems to always come up in the clutch, and a first and second round pick. I have Gattis who can still hold down the fort at catcher and I wasn't comfortable starting Dansby all year. With this deal I am cutting whatever losses I would have this year and offsetting it with 2 picks and saving over 5M in cap to use this offseason.
Nats to accept, hopefully faster than our negotiations took lol. Good luck my dude.

Nats accept- hate to part with the draft picks and Nido, but Austin Barnes can be a gem, and getting a player like Swanson back on my team is provides a world of potential. Lucas Sims is a former first rounder and hopefully he can learn from his first season and montero and Ramirez will provide depth- Barnes and Swanson make the loss of the picks much easier to take and they will provide more of a quick return than those picks will at this time. thanks for the trade and good luck

Veto -
2 draft picks, a halfway decent but unranked catching prospect, and two throw ins (Diaz and Blazek)
for
An MLB-ready SP in Luke Sims, a one-year removed from Top 3 prospect status SS in Swanson, Austin Barnes, a severely underrated contributing catcher that straight up stole a starting job from Yasmani Grandal AND an extra SP with cash covered.
There's no way this is a good sell for the Padres as the Nationals easily win the future value in this trade, and they also win the 2018 value end of this trade also. I don't think the two draft picks compensate nearly enough as the Padres may think it does.

Will, I'm shocked, royally shocked, to see a veto out of you, yet alone 2 vetoes.
I veto as well for same reasons as Will. Exactly same, so I'm not going to repeat them.

I'm not going to pretend that I'm not getting a good deal on this, however I do want to point out a couple of things from my perspective. Lucas Sims, while young is currently listed as the Braves #5 starter, he was 3-6 with a 5.36 ERA- this for a team that will be looking for improvements this offseason, so there is no guarantee that he sticks with the big club, let alone has a starting job. Second, Dansby Swanson, he is the starting SS for the Braves, however - .232 6HR 51RBI 312 OBP 636 OPS/.259 7HR 20RBI .290OBP .682OPS The first is Swanson's line the second is Diaz line. Diaz spent a majority of the season at AAA, but is productive when in the big leagues and does provide some punch for a team that is desperate for power production in the middle of its lineup. Austin Barnes- he did take the starting catcher job in the post season, but many people ride a hot hand in the post season and Dave Roberts did the same thing. Barnes is a solid player and he could very well take that starting job over at the beginning of the year, however the post season is a small sample size to determine a season's worth of performance. With this being said, I was ripped last year for trading picks and not getting enough in return by several owners, so a move of picks this time to get a return that is full of question, but could provide a solid return is questioned as well. I don't think this deal is that far off when you look at it all is players and picks that provide no certain guarantees.

Veto
The picks (and other assets) do not come close to making this feasible

Haha, normally you're defending trades I don't think are even close, so it's just different that we agree on something.

Veto-
If you look position by position there is no way that Diaz for Swanson would make a good deal. You're looking at 5 years of Swanson vs. 2 years of Diaz and Swanson was the Braves top prospect.
Austin Barnes is a starting catcher who put up great numbers last year and has 6 years of cheap control left. Definitely worth more than the return in Nido.
Sims is worth more than Blazek on the basis of Sims is a starter and Blazek is not, alone. Not to mention Sims has a spot in the rotation and Blazek barely has a spot on the MLB roster. (Because he has struggled when given the chance.)
And then throwing in Ramirez and Montero for good measure. And covering $4M of Sims contract.
The draft picks do not come close to covering this huge disparity.
