Orioles trade:
1B Edwin Encarnacion - 18: $25M, 19: $25M RP Dellin Betances - 18: $6.6M (A - 5 of 7) SP Parker Bridwell - 18: $800k (2 of 7) INF Derek Dietrich - 18: $4.3M RP Wandy Peralta - 18: $800k (2 of 7) OF Carlos Tocci - 18: $300k (prospect) 5th Round Pick - BAL
Cubs trade:
3B Manny Machado - 18: $11.7M (A - 7 of 7) OF Max Kepler - 18: $800k (3 of 7)
Since he's a young third baseman, I add the most valuable player in the deal in the form of Machado, but Cubs adds highest scorer from 2017 in Encarnacion. Because I add the most valuable player in the deal, though, Cubs has about 600 more points (2017 numbers) coming his way, and has several controllable players going his way in addition to Encarnacion, while I'll have to tag Machado for $35-million. Think the deal should really benefit both sides.
Thanks for the negotiations, Tanner!

Cubs accept. Giving up a player as great as Machado isn’t easy, but I fill my first base need for after this season and get closer to forming my super bullpen I had envisioned for the offseason. Bridwell adds a much needed starter as I lacked depth there, and Tocci just adds more to the farm system. Great working with you Mike!

I'll approve (2-0). The Cubs add a big time first baseman, and have Carpenter to play third. This is a solid infield, they could use an outfielder though. Nice getting depth in the rotation and bullpen with Britton out. The Orioles keep moving. Machado is one the best players in the game. He'll cost a lot come next off-season though... although how many of Baltimore's players actually make it through a whole season on the team. Kepler fills out the outfield.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this - the Orioles have just decimated their future assets even further somehow, and pitching staff no longer exists in a matter of two trades. They receive some cap space here I suppose to sign some free agents, but they won't be able to field a complete team regardless so how beneficial is it really to have Judge, Machado, and Kepler without anything coming to help in the future and no amateur draft picks.
Carpenter isn't 3B eligible either, but Dietrich will fill in okay there for the Cubs.
Approve just based on this deal alone, but man the Orioles do not look good.

I think carp had eligibility at some point last year? Maybe that was earlier, I didn't look too far into it. Regardless, a good UT piece.

ESPN has a 20 game threshold to begin the season with eligibility, or 10 games played in the current season. Carpenter only played 16 games at 3B last year so he will start with only 1B eligibility.

Allow. Not really a good trade for the Cubs it leaves a huge hole in their lineup with not much chance of being able to replicate the talent lost, yes EE is an upgrade over Carpenter and the added depth is great, but the Cubs are going to need to make a series of moves for this deal to work well. For the Orioles, I don't get the sense that this will be their last move, so adding an asset like Machado could be a move geared towards another move. Don't really like this trade for either team, I agree with Will, the Orioles as a complete franchise don't look good.
