Hey everyone,
The trade deadline this year just passed... and it passed during the last week of the season. I think that's not very conducive to a competitive regular season. Consequently, the league has discussed moving the trade deadline to July 31st, in line with the MLB trade deadline. This should fall in Week 16 or at the beginning of Week 17 of every season. I'd be in favor of moving it up just a week more, but this is a good start.
It seems we're all in consensus on this, but I'd like to put it to a league vote just to confirm the change. In summary, I'm wanting to:
- Change the league trade deadline from August 15th to July 31st of every year.
VOTE!
Thanks!
- Alex

If we're potentially bumping it up further, I'd rather go ahead and have that conversation now leading up through the playoffs and then vote as one of the first matters of the offseason so we just have it entrenched, since if this conversation is going to happen again, I'd rather just do it once and be done with it. If that looks like setting up another forum, I'm good with that, and think we honestly have time to hash that out without it being a massive hassle, or we could even just set up an initial poll with more than 2 (maybe 4 or 5) options to see where everyone's at. Seems like one of those things where we'll inevitably have to revisit if there's currently a few different views, so that might be beneficial rather than having to restart this whole thing again later.

Would people be in favor of doing it July 24th rather than July 31st? I don't think we should do it much more before that. A month before the end of the season seems reasonable to me though.

Only reason I say the trade deadline is because roles can change significantly after the trade deadline in real MLB this gives us most of the information. Although, I won’t complain what ever we determine.

What about having the deadline be August 1st? Practically the same as making it the 31st but then we'd have all the deadline information for any final trades.

Could we make it so that it’s not in the middle of a week? So like the deadline would be 11:59pm EST Sunday of the round that the real life deadline fell on.

As per Dodgers, possibly a deadline of 8/1 or 2 so we can assess the fallout of any MLB deals?

Selfishly Saturday Sunday after the trade deadline has a lot of appeal ... any chance to add that as a voting option? (perhaps instead of Aug 15) Rockies GM (Alex)

That sounds like a good plan. I can't change the poll though, so can people just comment here if they're in favor of it being the first Saturday evening at midnight ET after the MLB trade deadline?

How about the Sunday instead? So it coincides the next day with a new week. But either way the weekend after the deadline is def the best

Rule Change Official. Seems like we have a consensus.
The Trade Deadline will occur on the first Saturday after the MLB Trade Deadline at midnight ET.
