Tigers Accept. This was tough but I felt it had to be done. My roster just isn't strong enough or healthy enough to make a deep run this year. I was hesitant to be a buyer before the deadline because A) my farm is ass and I feared trading the few assets I had would really put me in a bind long-term, and 2) I couldn’t find any affordable young, controllable options. So I decided to retool and build farm so that I can make a run, whether it be next year or 2021.
I like Wheeler a lot, but the truth is he has been a roller coaster for me all year. His stuff is disgusting but he lacks consistency and struggles going deep in games. In return I get a the Tigers top pitching prospect (MLB-ready) in Manning.
As for Villar, my plan with him in the offseason was to sign on the hopes he would outperform his contract, which I believe he has done. I have a hard time believing his value would be higher than it is now. In return, I get the Mets #1 prospect, who I think is an absolute stud.
Getting rid of CC was a no-brainer with his current situation. Sucks to lose Dyson considering his control and price, but getting Reed and the picks helped me deal with it.
I didn't want to deal with Caleb for obvious reasons; however, in the end he had the pieces and picks to get this done the way I wanted. In the end, I can deal with having go against Wheeler and Villar a couple times a year.... Good luck White Sox GM (Caleb) - make sure CC goes out in style!
