Orioles trade:
P Yerry Rodriguez $300k P Sean Hjelle $300k P Jacob Heatherly $300k
Yankees trade:
OF Michael Brantley 20: $7M, 21: $7M, 22: $7M
I have a bunch of outfielders that should be called up between Opening Day next year and 2021, but looking for current bigs guy who can hold down a spot in the meantime. Brantley’s age and injury history make him a big risk, but hopefully it can pay off.
Yankees add a few solid prospects to help their rebuild.

Really like Yerry Rodriguez and Sean Hjelle in my rebuilding phase. Jacob Heatherly, despite his high ERA had a pretty low FIP. Brantley is getting up there in age, so getting some specs for him is ideal.

I think I have to veto this one. (0-1)
Yes, Brantley is getting older, but was an all-star last year with his most games played since 2014, 40 doubles, and 22 home runs. He is still a very valuable asset and has multiple years of control at a pretty decent price.
The prospects coming back are ok. Arguably the best one is a 22 year old who hasn’t pitched above A ball and is out all of this upcoming season. The Rangers have a pretty good track record with pitchers recovering from TJS, but he’s a massive question mark going forward. Hjelle is a decent prospect, but really wasn’t great after getting promoted to AA. Heatherly seems to be a pretty bad prospect to me. 21 years old in his third season in the minors and made just 4 appearances last year.

I went back and forth on this. Initially I wasn’t a veto because Brantley will be 33 next year and I feel there will be a decline coming at some point. However, he was a top 20 OF and Steamer projects another top 20 season next year.
A deeper review of the specs reveals a very very underwhelming return. This seems like getting back “stuff” versus any semblance of quality. I haven’t found one positive thing said about any of these 3 guys.
I think it’s fair to assume a top 20/30/40 OF in his age 33/34/35 season for Brantley and Jacob isn’t getting enough back for that...not to mention a $7,000,000 a year player.
Veto.
PS. I think a top 100-125 range spec would be a good place to start with your asking price, Jacob.

Veto (0-3)
Thomas and Tim spelled it out pretty good already. Brantley is only costing Jacob 7M a year for 3 years that’s well below market contract for a guy of Brantley’s caliber. Shop him around and get yourself a better package.

Veto.... that’s three straight trades where the Yankees have traded solid veterans to star players for underwhelming returns. Aim higher bro.
