Proposal: For the 2021 Off Season prior to the start of free agency, teams will suffer no 25% cap penalty for the year with an option period. Cap penalty still applies for all non option years. In the even this rule is not passed before free agency, then only contracts created before 2021 free agency are eligible.
Purpose: Several options would have been declined this offseason. Especially for those that retired or were injured. This isn't a complete reprieve from cap penalties, but merely a waiving of the option penalty so that cutting dead weight doesn't cause an issue in this season AND next season.

I agree with this proposal. Let's do it. Yes for me. That would mean everyone has until January 2nd to take advantage of this. No to doing away with it all together. It was put in place to stop team options from becoming the default in free agency... there's literally no reason not to have one if this penalty isn't in place.

Just want to bump this to make sure people are seeing this. You can cut a player with a 2022 option and not pay the penalty until this Jan. 2.
