Nationals trade Brett Gardner 1 year, 16 million w/option 2021 5th round pick
Yankees trade 2021 6th round pick
I'm giving up a round earlier draft pick to get rid of a guy who probably won't even crack my starting roster, so I can use that cap space elsewhere.

Yankees accept. I am going to release Gardner and take the cap hit to move up a round in next years draft.

Veto. How do we value this one? To me, moving up 1 pick in the draft, isn't worth Nats clearing 16mil in cap. If it were a 3rd to 2nd, ok better. But he gains an enormous amount of flexibility for 1 round in the draft.

With fringe prospect's value so subjective, you could argue this is almost the lowest positive value asset one could give in exchange for something. The Yankees will be so bad next year, Nats have improved, this is likely a 10-12 spot.. maybe slight more... jump in the back of the draft. Even if this isn't a major trade, I just can't see how someone would take on $16m in cap space... just less than 10% of the cap... for that.
I'm with Travis. (1-2).

I approve.
I don't veto much. When evaluating trades I mostly think to myself "Is this trade CLEARLY unbalanced in a way that would damage the league if approved?". I don't believe this is the case here. A player and a pick were traded for another (lesser) pick to clear up cap space. I don't see this as a trade that is unfairly unbalanced and therefor does not warrant a veto in my mind.

Veto
This much cap space is worth more than moving up ten spots at the back end of the draft.
Also for example, the Yankees could sign a free agent on a $16m 1yr deal, reimburse it 50% and get back much more than moving up from pick 180ish to pick 170ish
