So, only two picks for the 5th Round, went with pitching. Keegan Thompson is my 3rd college pitcher and 3rd Cub product that I've drafted this go around. With some systems, it feels like one could only select prospects from just that team and still come out with a fantastic draft class. With Thompson, I ranked him higher than Brendan Little, so it feels like I'm getting a bit of a bargain in the 5th round. Then I decided I couldn't wait any longer, Luis Medina is a lottery ticket that I think might pay off pretty nicely. With so many ranked prospects still available, it's becoming more fun getting to comb through the short lists I try to create for myself for each of my picks. Currently, I'm looking at list of 25 mlbpipeline ranked prospects as well as about 50 prospects of interest that I would roster. Hope y'all are getting the prospects your targeting.

I'd be interested in hearing how some of you felt about your draft, did you get the targets you were after? Any players that you were hoping to draft but had them snatched out of your reach before you had a chance to select that prospect? William Contreras and Jorge Guzman were 2 of my short list prospects that I felt I missed out on. Tom De Blok might be one the more fun picks that was made. Elehuris Montero was the only pick not my radar, but will be now.
That's it, the draft is coming to an end, absolutely loved this round, this draft for the Giants. Jose Taveras moved through the Phillies system with ease and impressed in AAA, I see a nice #3 with my rose colored glasses with a MLB arm being his floor. Been considering Dennis Santana since the 3rd Round and finally decided to take the plunge and draft a 50FV prospect in the 6th Round. Garrett Cooper adds depth to my roster and think he fell in this draft due to injuries this season, but I see a potentially productive MLB bat. I felt like I needed to add C into my system and really had a time sorting through which one I wanted, decided to go with Ronaldo Hernandez, while he isn't a rated prospect, I'm dreaming he will be next year and be a top 10 Catching prospect before he is called up. My final pick could have gone so many ways, so I decided I wanted to go with a lottery ticket. Jonathan Loaisiga has a nice delivery, good command with his fastball that can hit 98 as a starter, he will be overlooked due to his size, I'm pretty excited about his future and see him in the same light as some of my top pitching prospects. This round and draft is an easy A.
14 arms, 7 bats, 9 current 50FV prospects, 3 players with MLB experience. Thrilled with this draft class and how the development of this franchise is going. The picks I'm least confident about is Ronaldo Hernandez and Jose Garcia, Wilmer Font is more organizational depth than upside. Kyle Cody was a pop-up selection, meaning he wasn't on one of my short lists before the draft started. Jose Taveras and Jonathan Loaisiga are my favorite picks, Loaisiga is also the most likely to break. Jordan Adell and Michel Baez are so far living up to their expectations as 1st Round picks. Missed out on adding a 3B prospect this draft and felt like I passed on some interesting prospects that I hope I can still select in the winter draft. Now, I anxiously await the winter draft. Completed the build although the journey is ongoing, the expectation is that Giants will be, a front runner to be a playoff team from here on out.
1.18 Michel Baez, RHP, SD, A 2.02 Alex Lange, RHP, ChC 2.04 Adbert Alzolay, RHP, CHC, AA 3.02 Ranger Suarez, LHP, PHI, A+ 6.29 Jonathan Loaisiga, RHP, NYY, A- 6.02 Jose Taveras, RHP, PHI, AAA 4.12 Trevor Stephan, RHP, NYY 5.12 Luis Medina, RHP, NYY, Rk 6.12 Dennis Santana, RHP, LAD, AA 5.05 Keegan Thompson, RHP, ChC 3.29 Kyle Cody, RHP, TEX, A+ 4.26 Alex Wells, LHP, BAL A 3.26 Trevor Hildenberger, RP, MIN, MLB 4.23 Wilmer Font, RHP, LAD AAA

How do I feel about my draft picks?? I think the Phillies won this draft, hands down. Biased and inaccurate?? Probably. 😂

Das (Former Giants GM), I'll say you won the draft, hands down... with Phil in second. Terrific work stockpiling... everyone rebuilding should be trying to do what you've done with your roster. I'd better win this year or the next because you're going to own the NL West. As far as my five picks I had... I loved my Hans Crouse pick, and I loved getting Jake Burger in the first round. I really hope he pans out, because I've had terrible luck drafting third basemen so far, or at least it feels like it.

Aside from the obvious choice of Hunter Greene, I think I am most excited about adding Drew Ellis to the Phillies organization. I think he was overshadowed by McKay while in college and an underrated prospect. He has plenty of pop and hit for a high average while at Louisville. While he can strikeout at a high rate, the league set-up doesn't punish K's as much as others so I'll take the K's with the potential big homer numbers.

I drafted Drew Ellis in the first draft I did with this draft class and probably would have been my selection at 2.18, if I had a need at 3B. The thing with Ellis is something Phillies GM (Zach) mentioned, he is overshadowed, which really isn't a real problem. Even in Hillsboro he was overshadowed by Eudy Ramos who got the nod in the Northwest All-Star game, he also has Pavin Smith and Daulton Varsho to share the limelight in the Hops lineup. I do like Ellis's approach to hitting, he is a better prospect than Ramos, if his power does come through Ellis could be an impact player. The real caveat I see with Ellis, he isn't on my roster. No chance I was going to let Adell fall past my pick. Jake Burger was on my short list for pick 1.12 even though he plays 3B, sort of felt like I have enough depth at 3B that I didn't have a need to replenish. Burger was the top rated 3B on my board and I found him to be a refreshing reminder to why boys grow up to play baseball in his interviews after he was drafted. He is less overshadowed at his position then Drew Ellis and will have an opportunity to get fast tracked if can prove to be talented to handle the jumps in talent.

While I obviously sent my draft picks elsewhere, I did pick up Brent Suter, Wandy Peralta, Pat Valaika, and Jaycob Brugman all in this year's MiLB draft, and each gave me over 100 points this year. Suter has a chance to be in my rotation next year, while Valaika provides great pop off the bench, and Peralta will be a controllable depth piece in my bullpen for the foreseeable future. Brugman was a part of a trade that helped me acquire Miguel Andujar, Foster Griffin, and Travis Demeritte, so he served a valuable purpose for me as well.
Missed out on some gems, but I did pick up some pieces that will contribute for the long haul.
