After having updated the franchise tag system away from ESPN Dynasty Rankings to a new 3-year weighted points system, I wanted to propose a new Compensation Value system to completely sever the reliance on a subjective ranking system to determine the value of players once they hit free agency.
Here is the proposal that was favored for implementation and we are currently pending a League Rules update. You can see the discussion on that thread here: Scaled Franchise Tag Value Proposal (link).
This proposed compensation system will follow the same tiers used for weighted tag value. Here are how the free agents are separated into Types of Franchise Tag, for reference:
Hitters:
Pitchers:
Notes:
The proposed comp system will reduce the number of potential Comp A picks, but increase the number of potential Comp B picks, keeping roughly the same number of combined potential Comp A or B picks from the top of the class.
Potential Additions to this Proposal:
1) Draft pick compensation using the above method will only be granted to players signed away on restricted offers.
2) Further decrease the number of compensation picks by using tag values instead of scaled tiers.
Looking forward to your feedback in this absolutely dull month of fantasy baseball.

Hitters:
Type | Weighted Points | Tag Value Multiplier |
A | > 650 | $0.045 per point |
B | 550 - 650 | $0.035 per point |
C | < 550 | $0.025 per point |
Pitchers:
Type | Weighted Points | Tag Value Multiplier |
A | > 500 | $0.050 per point |
B | 400 - 500 | $0.040 per point |
C | < 400 | $0.030 per point |

(Compare the old comp pick (Column J) with the new system comp pick (Column L))
- Type A Free Agents will receive a Comp Round A pick as compensation.
- Type B Free Agents will receive a Comp Round B pick as compensation.
- Type C Free Agents will receive no draft pick compensation.
Here is how the 2019 Free Agent Class would look like, comparing both the old and new (proposed) systems, counting the number of free agents qualifying for each level of compensation:
