I'm in need of an upgrade at SS. Crawford and his 3.1 PPG fits that need for me. I've been hesitant to move Barger as he's a LH multi position player that's already had a couple of short stints in the majors this year. His prospect rank varies but I've got him at 110 on a consensus ranking I use. This could be a move I regret as soon as after the MLB deadline if the Blue Jays go rebuild and call him back up. FYI we used the Nate Lowe trade baseknock.proboards.com/thread/11988/rockies-mariners as our Comp when discussing this trade. Rays Confirm. And the rebuild begins. I hate losing Crawford and his steady production at SS but needs must. I take on board that Barger is high-variance with a wide range of outcomes in the coming years but I am hopeful he will be productive at multiple positions even if it, at a minimum is on the strongside of a platoon. The draft pick will add to my list draft pick list come next January. Plus I just picked up Tim Anderson and am a bit delusional that he will fill the gap at SS for the next two years.

Approve. I think Gavin could’ve gotten a little more for a starting shortstop with two and a half years of control left. This feels like a sell low on Crawford, when he wasn’t in a rush to trade him (no cap space struggles or impending free agency). You’ll figure that out as you go though. A great get for Kyle heading into the playoffs, a hitter who could easily be better than he has been the first half of the season down the stretch.
